Poorly Charlie
He has been sounding chesty over the last few days so I took him to see john this morning.
There is done upper respiratory issue :-(. I am really hoping that it is not those bloody tooth roots pushing through.
John gave him a nasal flush and I have to call in on Monday with an update.
No the mean time I have to steam him twice a day... Any idea on how best to do this? John suggested putting him in a steamy bathroom but ours rarely steams up.
Please could I also have a spare vibe or two for him?

Re: Poorly Charlie
Oh no what is wrong with all our buns at the moment I swear the weather is not helping. Arfa is terrible today breathing due to it being so warm.
What about putting Charlie in a pet carrier with a dish of boiling water near him outside of the carrier and put a large towel over the top of the carrier and dish ( making sure of course he can't get to the water ) just an idea.
Otherwise a steamy bathroom is ideal.
Sending Charlie loads of magic Vibes from us all here at the Warren xxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Poorly Charlie
I have been giving this some thought. How about electric steamer (the type you cook veg in) on floor, Charlie in wire fronted carrier on chair, carboard box fashioned to direct steam into carrier?
I am thinking that a towel over the top might over steam him.

Re: Poorly Charlie
I seem to remember that Sparky ones mentioned something about a steam treatment for bunnies but can't find it at the mo. Cheryl's idea is worth a try.
Or something like a children's play tent where you could place the carrier in?

Re: Poorly Charlie
Sparky uses a nebuliser plumbed into her spaceship. If John thinks the problems will reoccur it would be worth investing in one. It's not the same as stem therapy though.

Re: Poorly Charlie
If you had an electric kettle you could put him in his carrier and place it with him in it with the door closed and place it and the steaming kettle under a smmal table. Make a tent over the table placing the carrier and kettle far enough apart that the steam would cool before itbreached him. You'd reallyvhave to monitor tho.

Re: Poorly Charlie
Thanks guys - I've just been and bought a facial steamer which I sat him with his face over the top - was ok but not great. Going to try your veg steamer idea Cheryl.
Sparky - do you have a link to your spaceship at all?

His breathing seems worse to me today. I'm so worried this is to do with those tooth roots and am praying it isn't.

Oh Katie, I am so sorry to hear Charlie is not so good Loads of vibes and hugs coming your way.
Did John suggest using bisolvan? It may not be appropriate for Charlie's infection though.

Re: Poorly Charlie
It is a powder that you can add to food which helps to keep the airways clear of mucous. Whether it is appropriate in Charlie's case I don't know but it would be worth asking John. There is some more info here.

Just be careful though as the cardboard soaks up the steam.

We used this powder for Hope as she had respiratory problems most of her life but it didn't do her much good and we borrowed an intensive care unit to nebulize her in which helped her a lot. Hope was so bad we use to have to put her in the unit spray inside with an inhaler and then nebulize her.
We are going through this now with Arfa of course we can't nebulize him as I know he would stress and he can't get stressed as he is really bad then with his breathing but this weather isn't helping so he's got a cooling unit on ( the ones you have to fill with water ) but at night's we do what we did for Hope which seems to help a lot to aid the breathing and that is add a few drops of Olbas oil on to a clean rag or cloth and attach it to their hutch/indoor cage ( not directly so they can touch it ) we sometimes use to put drops on Hopes fleece and cover her indoor hutch with it.

Aww poor Charlie I hope he feels better soon.
Do you have a shower cubicle, Katie? When Noah had the cold at 3 weeks old we were told to put him outside the shower cubicle with the door open only about a foot, with him sat right at the open door.

Re: Poorly Charlie
My friend (who is amazing) has dropped C&A off at the vets this morning, as I was worried about his breathing, especially in this heat.
JC is going to Xray him tomorrow in the morning and Im going to call him this afternoon to check how my boy is.
Im absolutely worried sick.

Re: Poorly Charlie
Oh no poor Charlie:( Joey gets nebulized daily due to his sneezing / nasal issues. We use an Omron machine (which Sparky's huparents sent Joey. Amazing ppl!) that is meant for human nebulization, we stick him in his toilet cage and put a sheet over it to keep it enclosed.
