Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
My little man is refusing to eat.
I knew he was off this morning. He took his shreddie but was not interested in pellets. I decided to go to work and see how he was when I got back.
He was not a happy boy and wouldn't even eat freshly picked grass which is his favourite
So off to the vets we went. She can't feel any hardness/mass in his tummy and he's not sensitive to it being touched. Had a look in his mouth - there are spurs which will need to be dealt with, but she doesn't feel they're significant enough to have stopped eating. Temperature, heart, lungs etc all fine.
So he's had a gut stimulant injection, pain relief injection and fluids. Brought him home and syringed him some Critical Care - a two man job for a 1.6kg bunny!
I'm going to watch him over the evening - hopefully he'll start to nibble again but if not it'll be more CC at around 10pm.
Vet can't put it down to anything other than stress/environment e.g. weather changes etc. She also commented on how there is 'something in the air' with buns at the moment!
Can I have some vibes for the little man? Really want to avoid chasing him around, catching him and syringe feeding him as it is a huge ordeal for him. Here's hoping he starts to munch a bit in the next few hours xxx

All vibes for you both. If he got dental spurs even the tiny weeny ones will put any of mine off food.

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
Yes, Vanessa - he had a Vetergesic injection.
Earlier on he seemed worse - he was lying in his box with his tummy flat to the floor looking miserable. I managed to get him to have some more CC - he's becoming more co-operative with this.
Will go and check on him in about twenty minutes. Don't want to stress him by keep going in and out of the room as he's not a big fan of hoomins as it is, bless him.
Thanks for the vibes
ETA: Just realised that Vetergesic is a pain medication, and the Emeprid was the gut stimulant. Stupid me!

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
He's much the same
I've given him one last CC feed, left him with a big pile of hay and tempting treats cuddled up with Wills.
I feel to keep hassling him at this point is counter productive. He's had his pain relief and fluids so no need to worry there. He's got a gut full of CC and stimulant so hopefully he'll get going over the night.
If he's not better in the morning I'll take him back to the vets

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
I know some tiny spurs can be enough to stop some sensitive buns from eating, so it may well be his teeth. Also, there is definitely something in the air with buns at the moment! I know the temperatures and weather is all over the place here, and that can really upset somebuns.
In any case, tons of vibes for Mr Mo. Give him a nose rub from me. xxxx

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
Thanks for the vibes, guys
He's been to the vets and is booked in for a dental tomorrow - it's all we can think of, as his tummy feels soft and doesn't indicate problems in that area...
He's had more pain relief, gut stimulant and a CC feed at about 6pm. I bought him some fresh parsley and mint which he's had a nibble at, along with some dried herbs. Not sure now whether to try and force feed him when he's nibbling himself? Not sure how much is actually going in though...
Hoping the dental tomorrow solves the current issue, but if he's going to be needing them every 6-8 weeks (his last was just before Christmas) there's no way I can afford that. Really don't know what I'm going to do

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
Yes the financial aspect is huge if he needs denials (spellcheck you drive me potty, dentals! Not denials. Grrr)on such regular base. I don't know what to suggest regarding this.
I thought I suggested way back when I joined HH( indeed some time ago) whether we could set up a fund. Whoever can donate what ever and if times strick hard that money could be used to help.
As to the cc feed have you got some at home?
Bertie by now happily licks the made up paste from a little dish.
I don't think it would harm to give him about 10-15 ml. It would be to support his guts whilst he is still nibbleing food. Do you feed pellets? Pour a bit of warm water over them. Only a tiny amount just so they soften and than he might take it.
Sending the tooth fairy for him and hugs to you:hugs:

Poor Mr Mo
I'm sorry you're facing the prospect of frequent dentals. I'm kinda in the same place, hoping Molly's was a one off blip due to the alfalfa king hay stock problem, because hers cost me £126!!!!

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
He is home and eating, so that's good. The vet still doesn't think that his teeth were significant to have caused the lack of appetite though. We're leaning more towards another of his random stasis bouts, but neverthless he had them done and had his shave at the same time - bless
We're not sure what brings about his stasis bouts. They seem to happen out of the blue. If I'm brutally honest, I think it's being indoors. The hussle and bussle of the house, dogs, people coming and going etc seems to effect him massively, whereas Willow takes it all in her stride. He's much, much happier living outside - trouble is, Willow can't.
I'm really pondering what's best for him as of now. I know Chloe at Fat Fluffs is prepared to have him, and he'd be so, so much happier in that kind of environment. I just want to do what's best for him
He and Willow are good pals but I wouldn't say they've ever had an "inseperable" bond. I still can't help but feel seriously, seriously cruel to seperate them though. But Mo is unhappy, and in my heart of hearts I know an indoor home is not for him. I can't help thinking that it's now affecting his health...
Help guys! What do you think?

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
I can honestly say, I would have no idea what to do in your situation, but I can see where youre coming from.
You know your buns better than anyone else, and I know that you have their best interests at heart, and in the end will do what you think is right. I honestly have no idea what Id do, do you really think he would be better off in a rescue setting? ...Thats for you to decide, I suppose. I didnt want to read and run, but I really dont know what to suggest. You have done wonders for that little bun though. I vaguely remember a skinny, nervous wreck when you first got him. xxxx

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
Thanks Sophia
My head is all over the place at the moment.
I want to do what is best for BOTH of my buns. Unfortunately, this is not achievable as their needs and temperaments are so different. Willow's health would be just as badly affected by moving outdoors as Mo's is by living indoors. Willow would also be miserable - she likes the human interaction and the "house bunny" environment. Mojo can't stand it.
Argh!!!

Re: Vibes for Mr Mo please :(
Had any more thoughts since sleeping on it? I figured, whatever you decide, its not a decision you're going to come to quickly, or take lightly!
What if Mo went to Fat Fluffs, what about Willow? Would you find her another friend? If not, have you thought about how she may cope on her own? Either of them, infact? They might not seem too loved up, but you'd be surprised how much of a difference having each other does make, and how much they may change when they become single. - Marley and Effie arent particularly loved up, and I know its different, because its early in their bond, but Marley was miserable without Dolly. He didnt do anything. Both buns are quite submissive, whereas Dolly was very dominant, and Marley got his confidence from her. Although he has his friend, hes not as confident as he was when he was with Dolly. I cant help wondering if Mo may go backwards again if separated?
Im not trying to tell you that giving him up is wrong, im just throwing some thoughts out there. Like I said, I really have no idea what Id do.
I think Id call this being caught between a rock and a hard place, as they say!
