Re: feeling frustrated :(
I am sorry you have had such a bad experience. My experience with rescue has only ever been good, so I can't imagine how you must be feeling
Sending lots of hugs and vibes that you and Hector find the perfect ladybun very soon

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Zo, can you remind me of the size of Hector's cage, free range time etc. The RSPCA and most rescue guidelines ask for a minimum 6ft by 2ft hutch and a 6ft by 4ft attached run. This makes a total 36 square feet, the equivalent of a 6ft by 6ft indoor enclosure. Now 6ft by 6ft is a big space to provide unless like my daughter Louise you have a spare room to give over completely to the rabbits.
If you could give us some more info/pictures we may be able to offer some suggestions as to maybe how to maximise the available space you have. Louise and I had three attempts before we worked out the best way to allow Bobbin and Hollie to live alongside each other and have just had to redo it again now that they are bonded.

Re: feeling frustrated :(
His cage is 7ftx2.5ft, and i said i was going to be adding a pen during the day/night which would be approx 3ftx5ft. So 32sqft, but that lady said 48sqft was the min, and didn't even bother asking how big the attached pen would be, or how big hec is (which in my opinion is important, he's less than a foot from nose to tail, he looks teeny in his cage). That set up would be maximising the space, with the pen attached you wouldn't be able to walk from one end of the room to the other without climbing over. Edit// he has 4-5 hours of free range time every evening
She actually asked if I'd consider putting him outside so he could get the required space, which to me is out of order, you can't just shove a bun that's spent 2 & 1/2 years sleeping a foot away from you, outside in the garden away from everyone, regardless of whether they have a companion. Some buns are better suited to being outside (like mr mo) but hec is not one of those buns!

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Thanks for the info, it sounds as though you are doing everything right by adding a pen. Square footage is not always the be all and end all if there are extra levels in a cage.
I really hope that things work out for the Honeybunny with you. I have a huge amount of respect for Jill who runs the rescue. Hopefully she could carry out the bonding for you too.

Re: feeling frustrated :(
She seems nice so far, has asked loads of questions (which i see as a very good thing) but is very nice and positive with it. Trying not to get my hopes up in case it doesn't work out

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Fingers crossed!
I totally understand where you are coming from with regards to 'indoor' and 'outdoor' buns. I have one of each - this makes it a huge struggle for me(!) - but every bun, just like every person, is different and has different preferences.
Hope things work out well xx

Re: feeling frustrated :(
I'm sorry you're having a nightmare. It seems single girls are hard to find too. I got Enfield 4 days after losing Dolly, as Marley wasn't doing too well, but she's much younger than I wanted really.
You will find he perfect little lady bun eventually though. Things will work out for the better, you'll see. I highly recommend contacting Honey Bunnies in Leicester. It's a long long way from me, but my friend managed to adopt from there, and there were various lifts organised to get the bun here. I'm just saying don't loose heart if the rescue is a little further than you'd like, it's worth enquiring.
I'd recommend contacting the RWAF. They have a list of rescues. It's not right up to date, but it helped me to find a lot more rescues in my area. I made a list and called them all.

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Thanks guys
Sophia, I'll see if it works out with this girl, and if not I'll have a look on the RWAF website like you said. I'm only an hour away from honeybuns which is ace, but to be honest distance isn't too much of a problem for me as i can drive, so as long as they can do the home check I'm fine. The rspca south bucks person was probably closer to me than honeybuns, but she wouldn't do the homecheck, nor would she accept the northants branch doing it for them, just seems silly to me. I have 3 local rspca branches but can only adopt from one bc I'm in the wrong county for the others, but it's whatever now, just fingers crossed for chocolate muffin!

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Seems odd, I never had an issue with the RSPCA centres re distance, but I did find them very unhelpful and patronising, unfortunately.

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Almost the same experience then, the lady i dealt with was definitely patronising and unhelpful! She said she has a house rabbit expert and that's the only person she'd allow to do the homecheck. Don't see why said expert couldn't just create a checklist that others could use so the check is the same but could be done by someone else.

Re: feeling frustrated :(
Believe it or not Zo, I did consider removing bricks from the wall to do just that. It didn't go over too well with Mum though, suprisingly...
All fingers crossed for you and Hector!
