Returning buns to playhouse - Reassurance Please
Monday evening I noticed Tigger was unwell & was so worried I brought him indoors (with his wifebun), gave antibiotics etc. Tuesday morning he went straight to the vet, who confirmed he had a chill. She advised to keep him in until his core temp returned to normal, continue with meds & when eating normally again return him outside.
I'm happy to say, he is back to his old grumpy self, but still indoors as I'm too scared to put him back out, but remaining indoors is not an option for them both
I realise that the longer he remains in the house (the coolest room I could find) the harder it will be for him & wife to re-adjust to the great outdoors again.... yet still I hesitate.
Will they be OK after being indoors for 3 days? Am I being a tad too neurotic?

It is fairly well insulated & also in a position where it is sheltered on 3 sides.
As an added precaution for the winter months, I have just taken delivery of a double decker 5 x 2ft hutch to go inside. When the temp drops, the idea is that I can confine them to it overnight so their body heat doesn't get lost in the playhouse.

Can you offer them some fleeces, snuggles safes and large hay filled boxes to snuggle up into?
Warm water & food may also help for a few days.
If they have been in the house in a non-heated room they should be OK but you need to work out why he got so cold in the first places to prevent it happening again.

They have a carpet covered ledge (5ft), which has vet bed fleeces on & a mountain of hay. Numerous boxes, a hidey house, underbed storage box all stuffed with hay, also snugglesafes for extra cold nights.
At the weekend I laid carpet on top of their lino in readiness for the winter & moved their ledge away from the door to avoid any possible drafts... I also fitted curtains to help retain the heat
I'm at a loss really as to why he caught a chill, it was very sudden, at teatime he was fine.. & by supper time he was shivering. It's not as if he is a bun that likes to be out in all weathers either.

Re: Returning buns to playhouse - Reassurance Please
It sounds like they should be fine to me, did the vet find anything else wrong with him/give him a thorough check-over?
Often when rabbits are ill they struggle to maintain body temperature so rather than him being ill due to the cold it is likely he became cold due to being ill.
Should it happen again, I would suspect he needs more investigative procedures.

Yes, he had a thorough check over. Tummy was working well, teeth all OK, she said he was very well hydrated, just temp was on low side of normal. Thinking back, Monday day time he was quieter than usual, but eating & pooing fine.
I'll attempt to put them back outside tomorrow. Thanks for your advice though, it is much appreciated to air thoughts & concerns

If you put them back out in the early afternoon it tends to be the warmest time of day and will give them an opportunity to settle into the climate as the temperature declines towards evening.
Good Luck
