Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
McQueen is not right. I noticed he was fidgety and not able to get comfortable. I just felt his stomach and its really sucked in, he also feels very cold. The vet will not be open now; can some please tell me what I can do???
Please post ASAP!
I don't know if his pooped or not but his not eaten his meal tonight.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Can you ring your vet? Out of hours mine gives another number and you can get advice from them even if you don't go and see them, though it sounds like he really needs to see a vet.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
I have called the emrgancy vet and they charge £100 to come out and its to far to get there I THINK....I am about to check. The vet didn't really know what the problem was
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Sorry I cannot help, but I hope you manage to get McQueen sorted. It is really worrying when they get ill over the weekend, especially at night.
Sending Get Well Soon vibes for McQueen.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
I don't know what to suggest. In an emergency our vet usually meets us at the surgery, which is 2 minutes away by car and about 10 minutes walk. Can you drive? can you look up yellow pages and see if there are any other 24 hour vets you could maybe get to.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Have you tried tempting him with any of his favourite foods, giving him some Infacol & fluids and massaging his abdomen and also putting him near a heat source.
If he hasn't attempted to eat and looks uncomfortable (hunched up or flat out on his tummy, unresponsive, shivering, tooth grinding) then you need to get him to the vet....he needs painrelief at the very least but may also need sub-Q fluids & metaclopromide depending on what is wrong.
They go down hill so quickly that if basic first aid dosn't help there is no alternative but to seek qualified advice.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Yes his in pain but we can't get him out because the vets are to far and both me and Chris are ill ourselves with flu. I have tried tempting him with food he likes but his not interested and he keeps moving from one spot to another and laying flat of his stomach.
Now we have just had a power cut....great...
I have been pulling my hair out all night....I just don't know what to do....our nearest emergency vet is over an hour away, and Chris is down with flu (I don't drive).
I am so close to tears right now because there is nothing I can do, its also 1am and we are all ill

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
We weren’t able to take him because we had a power cut and knocked out all the streetlights in Surbiton (can you actually believe that!). Anyway its 3:35am and I am still up with him. His still the same. His responding but just acting weird. We will be talking him first thing (which from now is a few hours). Myself and Chris still have flu. Chris couldn’t drive over an hour to the vets tonight anyway because he would have put us all in danger. I will keep you posted.
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
How is McQueen doing this morning? More Get Well vibes on their way to the little fellow. Oh and lots of Get Well vibes for you and Chris too. I hope you are both feeling better soon.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Ok just got back from the vets. The vet says he has something that starts with C (sorry i can't even say it let alone spell it) that has caused his gutts to stop moving though I think it GI stasis. His still not eating and not been to the toilet since yesterday. His had some Baytril, Rimadyl and Metoclopramide as well as some recovery food which I am about to give him. He is ok, he is alert and moving about although he can't be on his feet for to long before he wants to lay down. His temperature his borderline high and his teeth are OK.
I will keep you posted.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Thanks Guys
His just had his recovery feed and nearly had the tissue out of my hand when he had finished….I think he liked it. Just looks like watered down pellets. He then munched on a bit of grass so he is eating now for the first time in hours, although I think his still a bit uncomfortable as his still laying down, probably just resting been a hetic night and morning. Hopefully he will recover from now on.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
His had his second feed and a drink and seems to be sat up a bit more. Still laying down but not laid flat all of the time. We still haven’t had any poops yet though, its only been his second feed (and his munched a bit of grass as well) I am not sure how long it takes for everything to start getting back to normal again?
I am just hoping there isn't a blockage that end

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
It can take a few hours before the Metaclopromide does it's job. Making sure he is drinking and eating will help lubricate his GI tract and aid the Metaclop in getting things going again.
Sometimes tummy massages and movement can help to stimulate motility...there have been a few times I have forced an unwilling bunny to hop laps of the living room every hour.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Ill try that...at the moment he will hop a bit then lay down (he was even worse last night, he even ran into the door of his cage). But Ill see if I can get him moving.
This recovery feed is thick isn't it...i added more water but it keeps going thick...it got stuck in the syringe and...well...kind of spurted out a bit to fact....he wasn't amused

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
A lot of people find it easier to give recovery feed by cutting the end off of the syringe(removing the taper) to give it a wider opening. You may find that more effective.
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
I found it very stressful when I had to chase Tarquin round - I felt very guilty making him do something he really didn't want to do, but it did seem to help.
The recovery stuff is hard work isn't it - T ended up with it all over him - not sure how much actually went in his mouth. And it ended up all over the bed and down me too.
Hope McQueen feels better soon.
