The recovery stuff is hard work isn't it - T ended up with it all over him - not sure how much actually went in his mouth. And it ended up all over the bed and down me too.
Hope McQueen feels better soon.
Haha yeah I know what you mean. I think McQueen is getting fed up with it now. It was ok and now he keeps flinching and running off. At leas his moving around, but he looks like one peed off bunny at the moment. It’s a tough love thing. I just hold his head down and put it in the side of his mouth. Ill feel better when his had a pop. Can anyone give me details on giving tummy rubs? How soft? Not soft? Upper or lower stomach?

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
The vet said what he had and it sounded like Collic??? what we thought here can’t be right as he doesn’t live with other buns and his living area is very clean. Ill probably double check with Cristobel on Monday.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Thanks guys
We have poos! Well only a few but it’s a step in the right direction. His still not 100%, bit courteous on his feet still, and not eating his pellets only hey (I know...he must be ill ), and I am having to remind him to drink. But there is improvement.
Getting ready to give him his other feed...

babes he may find warm water more appealing and soothing on his tummy.
also if you have some leftover veggies in crisper just boil them for a couple of mins and let the water cool and perhaps try him with that.
glad to hear there is big improvement....him eating lots of hay is good!

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Yay for poos
Carry on McQueen - your mummy will stop doing all these things to you soon if you carry on pooing and eat loads.
I knew when T was feeling better because he really fought against the syringe and ended up with even more of the stuff on him (if that was possible ). And it's really hard to get out of towels and duvets - it seems to dry rock solid
More pooing vibes coming your way.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Are any of the drugs his had likely to have made him sleepy? His only really eating when I offer it to him (as with drink) and at the moment it’s only hey. His taken a dislike to the syringe…that’s becoming impossible. He has been sleeping in his litter tray most of the day (which is clean as his not been going) and I have put a hot water bottle in for tonight. He won’t chew it because his not doing much at the minute and by the time he moves it will probably be cold.
Hopefully is better tomorrow.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
He seems more alert today and not in pain or discomfort. However his still not willing to move around. He can hop ok as I have tried forcing him to move but he just goes back into his tray again. His still not eating his pellets and only eating tip bits i offer him. I was sat there feeding him hey for about 20mins last night and he was sat on it
I will see how he is this afternoon, before deciding if he needs to go back.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Was he given Vetergesic painkiller? That used to make Evo very dopey.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
I don't believe his been given Vetergesic. But that photo of Evo is very McQueen, he lays flat like that a lot even when his not ill. Just wondering if his prone to this as his stomach seems to gurgle all the time even when well.
His just started to hop around, went straight to the table where our "important" bills are and ran off with one behind the sofa so he must be feeling a bit better. His looking very thin though.

Hope he is starting to pick up. Maybe now the pain has eased, he is feeling tired.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Any ideas what i can give McQueen to fatten him up. His lost weight as his not been eating but his still not eating his pellets. He looks so thin! I can't syringe feed him because his to strong.
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Perhaps put some of the gooey recovery stuff on his legs/feet so he cleans it off himself? I've done that before when it's been impossible to syringe. Though not so good if he doesn't clean himself fairly quickly as it does dry hard.
I've also used moistened pellets before when I didn't have the recovery stuff - mixed with warm water and fed it in a saucer.
Hope he's feeling better soon.

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
When Holly was ill, I had to syringe her and she hated it and it got stuck in the syringe. I made it into a soft paste and fed her little lumps of it. She licked it off my fingers.

His just eating cardboard, his still not eating his pellets but he will only eat cardboard. What the hell? He is a lot better but his eating habits are strange.
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
fudge has days where he eats cardboard and shredded paper. have you tried finely chopping yummy veg or even some lovely fresh herbs to tempt his nose too...

Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Yeah his pooping, all that is normal but his just eating cardboard and bit of hay. His still not yet eating "normally" as in the portion and what he should be eating.
Re: Emergency, McQueen / back to normal
Eating cardboard/paper etc and not eating 'normal' feed can sometimes indicate an impacted caecum.
Some pellet poops may still be passed but gradually this will cease and GI stasis will result.
As McQueen is a 'spotted' Rabbit he carries the potential of having a faulty gene which can predispose the effected Bun to a condition called Dysautonomia. The innervation of the caecum is 'faulty' and thus it stops working.
If McQueen is still not eating normally and ingesting lots of cardboard (which I would try to stop him from doing) I'd get him examined by a Vet.

It is so wonderful to have someone like you Jane who is so knowledgeable about rabbits and able to explain complex things in such an easy to understand way. You are a national treasure.
I hope that McQueen is better soon.
