run advice! Empty run advice!

Post by senatorvass Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:29 pm

Further to my other thread about the best hutch set up I am considering getting a large run for my rabbits in the garden. They have always been free range in the day which I love but as they are notorious for not wanting to come in at night and also I am constantly worrying they are going to find some crazy way of escaping that I havent anticipated I am toying with the idea of a large run. But not sure yet. I am also going to try to clicker train them so they might come in better at night but it still doesnt solve the escaping worry. I would need something pretty easy to take down though too as we want to use the garden as well & if its all taken up by run we wont have anything left. But I just worry they will be bored in it. They are used to a whole garden with brick walls, various levels, plants, a pond, garden furniture that they have tea parties at etc!

What do you think? Should I stick with the clicker training & constantly check for new escape holes or get a run?

I have a permanent chicken wire compound that they live in. They have lots of space to run about and it is easier to get them in at night. We have a hedge all around the garden which is 6 feet wide. Plenty of places for bunnies to hide. If they were really free range I would never get them in at night. I think it depends on your garden.

Is your garden to small to accomodate a permenant run....I've seen some amaing set-ups with aviary pannels on concrete slabs.

I would suggest making the run as large as you can without sacrificing any part of the garden you may want to use. x

do you think in the chicken coop on the other thread... if they were in that would they need additional space? What should I be aiming for?
