Re: Poor Peanut Butter - U/D bad prognosis
Peanut got his results today..
there are two different types of fluid inside his leg.
she said there isnt much left to try but, he is now on 0.9mls of Marbocyl once a day, 0.4 mls of Metacam day, and fudicerm cream.
The infection should go, we know this will happen (bcus it goes and then comes back). and then once its gone he is going under, they are going to remove the pouch where the infection sits, and close up all the little pockets where it creeps in to.
Then, we wait. If it comes back, because the pouch isnt there, it will go all around his leg and into the bone, so he will be put to sleep.
If it doesnt, then hopefully thats it done, finished. it could come back at a later time, and if it ever comes back at any life stage, he willbe put to sleep as there will be nothing they can do.
they need the infection to be gone temporarily for them to remove the pouch as if its not, it will leak everywhere and infect other places.
my poor boy. its now a question of waiting.

I really hope that they can stop it by removing the pouch. The pictures you posted earlier show such a happy contented and loved bunny. I just so hope it doesn't come to his having to be PTS. Hugs to you. How long do you have to wait until you know what is happening?

on the 21st he will be seen, if the infection hasnt gone, she will perscribe more antibiotics, and see him in a week. if it has, he will be admitted and have the surgery. they will remove this 'pouch' and close up all the other pockets where the infection is sitting.
Then, two weeks later he will be seen again, and if there is an infection back, then he will be looked at but then there is nothing they can do bcus while this pouch is bad, its actually STOPPING the infection getting into the bone, and without it, it has nowhere to go and will end up all inside his leg. so he will be put to sleep, which breaks my heart as while he has bad days when hes sore and grumpy, 80% of the time he is a happy little guy.
If its not back, then he will be seen in a month, and then if its still not there then he will get the all clear. it could never come back, but then it may, so then it will be a case of waiting and hoping it never does.

Oh I have my fingers crossed so hard for you. I know how much you adore your buns so it seems so totally unfair. Sometimes to do the right thing, you have to cause yourself so much pain and heartache. You are so brave to be able to put his welfare first.

Re: Poor Peanut Butter - U/D bad prognosis
i do, and i think the hardest thing to accept is that its not always sick pets that die.
hes not struggling, i mean everythings hes been through and not once has he even made me consider stasis, hes had a healthy appetite, he even BINKIED the other day, how do you put a bun to sleep if there 'okay'?
it seems so wrong. But we are doing everything we can. So far his treatment has cost over £750. and for what?
Jelly would be lost without him, so he HAS to get better. hes weight has gone from 2.2 KG in december to 1.8 KG now. vet said if it goes down anymore we will panacur, but for now she thinks its the stress.
sometimes i look at him and i feel like hes fading away, he sits there all quiet and sad. and then suddenly, boom! hes running around binkying, playing, digging holes and it makes it harder in a way

Gosh, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this with Peanut. He's adorable, I can't imagine how devastated you must feel at the thought of losing him.
I very much hope that the pouch can be removed and the infection cleared. Keeping my fingers very firmly crossed for you. xx
