Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Ohh ok, so far I haven't given Marley any herbs as such - he has the odd piece of apple or banana, strawberries, baby corn, raw brocolli/cauliflower, grapes (which he loves) and his absolute favourite seems to be raw cabbage.
Other things I've tried but he dislikes, such as tomato/cherry tomatoes, and mange tout.
I will try to pick up some more herby bits for him to try, thanks for the advice both of you. x

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Could it be because of the bananas, apples, grapes and strawberries that he is having bad poo? Fruits should only really be given as treats as they are high in sugar content and water too.
Good luck! Try to experiment with a few things, hopefully you find a balance that you both like soon enough

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
I usually give my buns veg in the evening and I give them, between three buns: 4 large leaves of spring greens (torn into two), one carrot cut into six pieces and green pepper cut into six. I also give them apple (without the pips), pear, celery, radishes, turnip or swede, red cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. I don't give mine banana because they don't really like it. In the summer they might get dandelions instead of one of the fruits and sometimes I pick wild plants that I know they are safe to eat too.

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Should they not have apple pips then Nickie? I started off cutting neat little chunks of the apples but once I put an apple in whole to see what he'd do with it and he ate the lot (slowly!) including the core.
Also he has been having a lot of dandelions - should I substitute other food for this? x

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Just as a thought on the Hay subject - daisy just wouldnt eat hay at all - but I was ginging him pet shop hay which im told is quite poor quality. I changed to a different type and he loves it! So it might be worth trying some different types to find out what he likes.
The Hay experts to some very yummy types.
As for veg - daisy has a little red cabbage, watercress and spring greens ( a little bowl full) in the morning and then if he has eaten it all again in the eve (but it is a small bowl full) he also has what we call his "nighttime papples" which he waits on the edge of his blanky for before we go to bed. This is just two little slices of apple.
He has a single layer of nuggies in the morning and eve in the bottom of his bowl which like nickie says he goes mad for, and acts like he has never been fed. Apart from this he has his hay, and a handful of timothy grass which I grow in pots for him (he eats better than me!!!).
If they are eating as much hay as they should be they have nice big round golden coloured poos...... daisy has a once daily poo check and if they are not like that then he gets less other goodies until they are again.

What brands of hay are good? I have been getting mine from a pet store admittedly, but I'm not sure where else I could get it? x

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Thanks for all the tips guys. I haven't given him any pellet food in the last few days and he hasnt faded away yet he does seem to have eaten more of the hay but still not as much I'd expect. So I am going to look at trying him on different types.
a
In the mean time he is eating loads of fresh grass when in his run in the daytime. He has also had a few fresh veggies in the evening when he goes back to his run (small ammounts, and I've avoided fruit as suggested and stuck to mange tout, baby corn, pepper etc).
Yesterday I bought him a couple of those dried sweetcorn cobs from a petstore, attached the first one to his cage last night and he started nibbling immediately - half of it was gone by this morning!!
I did have a bit of a query regarding his fur... he is shedding A LOT. He is black all over but when you look at him you can see white/grey patches and you can pull these patches out in clumps!! He is shedding all over though, I'm covered every time I go near him. Is it normal for him to be shedding quite this much? I thought it would probably be natural in the hot weather but in the heatwaves we've had already over the summer he hasn't been noticably malting.

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Don't worry about the moulting. They can moult in great big clumps or it comes out all over and you don't notice patches. It is probably more noticeable in a black bunny.
He will be shedding due to the hot weather and in the Autumn will start growing a lovely thick coat.

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Hi all,
Recovered my old advice thread because I need to go about registering our new baby girl at the vet and getting vaccinations (and eventually spaying) booked in.
I've looked around the forum and cant seem to find any vaccine threads that specify what age babies should be vaccinated at? (My Marley was 6 months when I got him so it wasn't an issue I looked into.)
Shes currently about 13 weeks so I'm assuming she's old enough to book in now but just wanted to check x

Re: Sprite's Complete Guidance Thread
Myxi vaccination can be given from 6 weeks old with VHD being done from 12-14 weeks.
Myxi is given every six months as a booster and VHD annually. There has to be a two week gap between Myxi being given and VHD vaccination. This won't affect you this time but later on when your bun is older.
