HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
Hi,
I need some help with my rabbit hutch.
I bought a nice hutch or my 2 bunnies, but water gets inside when it rains and my bunnies are very wet!
Even the part that is totaly covered and only has a small door to get in gets wet!
I don't know what to do to stop the water from going in, I don't even know how the water gets in!
I lifted the hutch off the ground, covered the sides of the "open" area of the hutch, but ALOT of rain keeps coming in!
I'de like some advise and help please!
Because this is driving me mad!

Oh dear thats not good from a new hutch.
Do you have a receipt? I would return it to manufacturers for a replacement.
Or get a tarpaulin from b&q or simular and drape it all the way over the hutch, but so you can pull it back to allow light and air in the day. Hope that sorts the problem out

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
My hutches are covered with Tarpaulin along the top and sides and a flap to go over the front at night or in bad weather, you can get a clear one so the light still gets in.
How far off the ground is the hutch and what surface does it stand on....
You also might want to consider the direction it is facing and it's placement in the garden.
All in all though, if the hutch seems at fault, contact the manufacturers.

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
I have indoor rabbits so I can't be of much help to you, but I'm sure other people will be able to help you out.
Is it a hutch you bought from a store or from someone who made it? If it's one you bought from a store some other people may have the same one and may have altered it somehow to stop the water issue. (Or maybe post a picture of the hutch).
Good luck on finding a solution for the buns!

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
Here is a picture of the hutch, exept that now the front and the door are also covered and the hutch has a floor and is lifted at about 10cm off the ground.
Until I find something I keep my rabbits indoor in their old cage.
The hutch isn't in a garden, its on a BIG terrasse, and the bunnies have illimited access to the terrasse.
I guess I could try covering it with Tarpaulin...

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
Is it triangular....hard to tell from the picture.....I wonder if the water is splashing up from the hard surface.
Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
My guese is that the rain is seeping into the very open part of the cage and running into the enclosed part. This is classed as a run, not a hutch though. Do they have a fully enclosed hutch for the night-time??

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
but now the open part is enclosed! so it's like a completly closed hutch.
I'll take a picture o how the hutch is now as soon as I can.

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
The water is going to be coming off the laminate wood flooring because it isn't sealed, the hutch is just resting on it and then the bunnies will be trapsing it about.
This type of enclosure really isn't designed as a overnight hutch, it's more a run with a shelter.

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
Isn't there a way to turn it into a hutch?
I don't have the money to buy another hutch...

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
I agree with sooz, its not really an adaquete hutch for all day, this sort of run is supposed to be used for them to excersize in on grass for a couple hours a day. A fully enclosed hutch with permenant floors and sides and doors is a must for rabbits.
The water is simply running under the cage over the laminate wood and soaking the rabbits living quarters, you're going to find it a MASSIVE job to stop it, much easier to buy a proper hutch, which is needed anyway IMO

Re: HELP! big rabbit hutch problem!!
I think also the joints on that pen will leak, as it hasn't been designed to protect from the elements, like everyone else said, it's more just for exercise on the grass, maybe you could find something second hand or find someone to build something, which may be cheaper then buying brand new.... Good Luck xx
