Critical Care and medicine Empty Critical Care and medicine

Post by ElleyMay Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:09 pm

This might be bunny basics but I want to be sure.

Brynn has started to willingly eat the Critical Care out of a big syringe... which is great because she is getting 4 kinds of meds so it is one last thing to force feed her.

She seems to not mind the taste of a couple of the other meds so she might start taking them willingly as well.

She hates the taste of the Simethicone... I was wondering if I could mix this with the Critical Care (and maybe another med as well)? It seems like a more painless way to get it into her (She's really hating me right now). Anything wrong with doing it this way??

Thanks.

I would think there should be no problem with doing that - but I'm not absolutely sure. Hmmm Sorry, that's not much help!

It's great that Brynn is eating the Critical Care - clever girl! It makes it much less stressful if she'll take it willingly.

Hope she's much better soon - and hopefully someone will be along to give more advice soon.

It's all going to the same place so I figure it wouldn't be bad..... but I'm a tad paranoid right now! Laughing Rolling Eyes

It's probably a stupid question, TBH!

Can you get Infacol in Canada? In the UK, it has a sweet orangey flavour. Maybe she would like that better.

Poor Brynn, and poor you. Some of ours are happy to take meds but Herbie is completely uncooperative. It becomes a horribly stressful battle Sad

If Brynn will take the CC willingly I would load her meds into that. I can't see it is any different to giving her them individually one after another.

Vibes for little Brynn and you xx

There is no problem with mixing meds with food as I have done this and my vet has okayed it, however don't mix the meds without first asking your vet, as some can react together.

I hope Brynn is feeling better, it's horrible having a bunny hate you for giving meds - Izi grows all the time now Sad - I'm sorry but I think I must have missed what was wrong with her?

Yah, sorry... I'm really spacey right now No and put the first thread in the wrong spot: https://happyhoppers.forumotion.co.uk/tall-tails-rabbit-chinwag-f5/brynn-t8093.htm

It's stasis. She's much improved today. Thankfully. She is hopping around a bit and exploring. Yesterday she'd just come out of the cage and go sleep in her little dark house (that she never goes in).

Thanks for the advice all.

Benji was just the same, he just slept and hardly moved. I guess I'm lucky that Benji loves cuddles, and is very easy to give fluids and meds too.

It really is awful knowing you are upsetting your bunny, but I think deep down they know you're trying to help, as after it's all done, you'd think nothing every went wrong.

Sorry to hear Brynn is still feeling poorly bless her. I hope you are okay hun.

I dont know much about mixing meds and things but I wanted to send her some get well vibes.

I would say that she must be improving in herself if she is eating the critical care.

Sending more nose rubs Brynn. x x x x x x

I think mixing them together should be fine... Josephine has stasis about a year ago, I covered both of her meds with food, but separately, does this make sense? The vet said hiding it in critical care was OK, and nothing went wrong, but the vets here aren't as rabbit savvy as elsewhere.

Good luck and sending vibes to Brynn.
