Vibes for Felix U/D dental abscess

Post by NickieM on Mon Jan 31, 2011 7:07 pm

Felix has always had a blocked tear duct and his eye gets a bit runny. Lately it has been held in check by Wolfie cleaning it. The other day I noticed his eye was looking a bit gummy so brought him in and cleaned it with cold tea.

Today I took him to the vet and he has an ulcer on the surface of his eye. It is quite a bad ulcer and is big and white. Some healing has started to happen because there is a lot of new red tissue immediately underneath. I have some ABX cream to put on three times a day after a clean and some Baytril to give orally.

Please send vibes for my wee boy. I don't think I can bear another eye-related death. It is just some upsetting that it is so soon after Gloria.

Oh goodness, Im so sorry to hear this is happening to Felix. Bless him

I hope you are okay, you must be worried.

Its good that it has started to heal on its own, and now that he has ABX it will hurry the healing along.

Sending Vibes for you both, along with oodles and oodles of love. x x x

Nickie, Fiver had a bad eye infection that progressed to an Ulcer last summer and it has cleared up perfectly with drops (we used chloramphenicol) and hasn't even scarred which I very much expected it too.

The eye itself is still prone to weeping but the ulcer itself has gone. I can't remember how long it took but certainly I saw a difference within a few days.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Felix. It must be terrible for you, with memories of the gorgeous glo. Hopefully like Sooz said it will clear up soon and he will be fine. Hugs

Thanks for that Sooz, it makes me feel a lot better to hear of someone else's experience. I have to clean the eye three times a day and milk the tear duct to get all the gunk out, then apply Gentimicin ABX ointment. I've got Baytril to give orally too. Hopefully together with the ABX injection he got last night, he will have had such a hit of ABX that it will get things started.

He seemed OK today. His eyelid wasn't as swollen and there was a lot less gunk than last night. Fingers crossed for him because he is such a sweetheart and so well behaved. If I had to do all this Wolfie I would have been scratched to bits!
