Moulting Empty Moulting

Post by Freckles Sat Feb 16, 2013 2:16 pm

My Thumper ND seems to be always in a moult, I brush him and brush him and it seems to calm down for a while, he will go into a light shed, next thing you know, he's molting again. Could he be lacking something? He has a very well balanced diet but this is starting worry me a little. He's on Oxbow Pellets and hay. Gets his daily veggies none that are high in calcium.

I don't know much about nethies but I think it's the breed and are in constant moult not that theres too much to worry about just a lot of grooming but i'm sure someone more experienced will answer this better than me Smile

I've never heard of a moult being linked to diet. I don't know what your weather has been like but over here we've been going from -5C to +8C within 24 hours. Our buns don't know whether to shed fur or grow some more Hmmm

We have 8 Nethies and they are all in heavy moult at the moment and are most of the year, it's nothing to do with diet or lack of anything it's just the changeable weather. So I wouldn't worry to much about it. You may find your Nethie a little bit off some day's as 'moulting' can make them a little depressed at times .

My Nethie seems to be always moulting - sometimes heavier than others but rarely goes more that a couple of weeks without leaving hair all over the place.

Is his coat nice and shiny still?

From what I have observed here it seems many do get moody! The little darlings know they aren't looking
their best and pout. Everybun has his/her pride!

My nethies are always in a light moult all year round. It probably doesn't help that i bring them in through winter. When they really moult though you know about it! There is more fur on me and the carpet than there is on the bunnies! Just make sure you brush the loose fur out when he is in heavy moult and that he has lots of hay. Oh, and when you have snuggles, look out for getting a bunny hair beard, its not a good look! Laughing

Mine aren't nethies, but both look very similar to wildies. They hardly ever shed hair, but just lately both have been moulting, although it seems to have passed now.

When I had white rabbits, they were all in constant moult and taking them to the vet left me, the vet and his room covered in fur every time!!! I even had a special fleece jacket that I wore. Laughing
