Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
They always advertise as "best kept in pairs" What they should put is "When neutered, rabbits are best kept in pairs"...then people wld think twice about buying two!! Just a simple rewording would be enough to educate or cause people to ask questions about why/how/when these things should be done.
I hate it when I see animals in the adoption section there because they were originally for sale, it is as if they are old stock and being sold for discount or no1 will bother because they aren't tiny and cute anymore!
Don't apologise for your rant, I totally agree.

Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
I think all buns should leave pet shops neutered, if people want to breed, they should go to a breeder who knows what they are doing, not pick up random buns from pet shops, who, as we can see, could have come from anywhere, may be embedded with God knows what problems etc.
But they won't do this, because the buns will no longer be babies, and will loose the 'instant purchase' appeal. It's irresponsible, and ends up with these poor buns in glass enclosures, and a load of waffle about 'no-one wanted me...etc', and mis-sexed rabbits being sold who then re-produce and add to the burdoning rescue population. I refuse to buy anything for Stewie from a pet shop that sells animals.
Grrrr....

Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
When I went P@H once I asked what they do if the bunnies for example are in the adoption section for a very long time and she said to me theat no matter how long it takes they stay here forever! Because I asked about Pip because she had been there a long time and no one would buy her because she has teeth problems which need trimming every 3 months and they also had her speyed she said to me that they spey/neuter there bunnys after 6 montsh if they still havent found a home. She was very nice and she reassured me that all there animals there do have a home for life if they do not find anyone.

sadly though at the end of the day it's a business, they are there to make a profit and with the best of intentions I find it hard to believe they keep all the animals they cannot rehome/sell. They must have loads of lonely bunnies at the back of their store (perhaps more than they have in store )

Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
Janak (Coco) used to work for P@H, and they don't remove animals, they do just go to the adoption bit, but this is a good thing (as much as it can be) as it makes them use proper stock control.
To bring this back to topic - I don't have twitter, but maybe someone could tweet the celebrities that contributed to Ingrid tarrant's book - the Rabbit whisperer?
Alice Beer, Nick Ferrari (he has a radio talk show on LBC) Chris and Ingrid Tarrant, Paul O'Grady, Paul Daniels, Andrew Castle, Lisa Maxwell, Mike Batt (Composer, 'Bright Eyes' ) - Thanks
Reallly happy with the response to this guys, and happy that there's posters been sent out already, well done, let's keep it up

Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
P@H are donating to this cause. They are sending equipment to help PACT thanks to the twitter campaign.
As for their adoption centre, are you aware of the awful story of the adoption centre in P@H Gloucester? It's a shocking tale of what goes on behind closed doors at these places.
I'm thankful to P@H for helping the horsford rabbits but i will boycott their stores because of their practices.

No I don't know it, I can imagine
Any help in this situation is valuable to the rescue, so fair play to them, but I agree with your stance

I reckon a lot of people who are unaware, would be up in arms if they knew about this. It needs bringing to the attention of the wider public, and especially the situation that the sanctuary are now in. But definitely the cause of it - this should not be going on at all. What I cant understand is why people go to pet shops when there are so many homeless rabbits already? We only have to look on local notice/advert boards to see "home wanted for bunny now Im bored of it" written on cards. And who in their right mind would want to eat rabbit meat when the poor animal was carrying infections and diseases? The next person who smirks at me about rabbit stew, will be gleefully informed about this, and I look forward to reeling off the list that has syphillis, pasturella, rat-bite infection, myxi etc on it.
Let us know how that goes Corrina, you're a legend

Re: MMC poster and press release re: PACT abuse case
Does anyone know the reason why the RSPCA refused to help in this case?Am rather intrigued as to what their answer will be.
Apparently they were the first people contacted by the hospital, when the situation was revealed to them, and said there was nothing they could do. Ive tried to email but am experiencing problems, and waiting forever for the page on which to email to appear. Perhaps it knows we are on the war path!
Will not be put off though - I shall contact them in hand-writing on my best Brooke-Bond if necessary....

Oh darling, the Basildon-Bond will be perfect You could always send them a tea bag too
I don't know why they wouldn't touch it, but it's not uncommon. I worry about their priorities (in some branches), but I shouldn't say more as it's probably defamatory or similar.
However, it's my opinion that if these were dogs, their response would have been different, and the donations would have flooded in ... As they are rabbits, however, less chance of generating public support, ergo.......
