Vaccinations
I have found a rabbit I'd like to get, and I'm hopefully going to get him in April. When I get him he'll be 20 months old, so he'll be old enough for vaccinations, how long should I wait after getting him home to get him vaccinated? I would like to get him vaccinated as soon as possible, I'm very worried about myxi and VHD as my friend's rabbit got myxi and she only lives about 15 minutes away from me. I want to get him vaccinated but I don't know when the best time would be, I've heard rabbits can get stressed easily and it would be an hour long car journey back (which although isn't too long I don't want to stress him out) and then a new home and everything, so I don't know if giving him time to settle in would be good or should I just get him vaccinated as soon as possible? I know there has to be 2 weeks between each vaccination.
Also does anyone know a rabbit health book that just has information on common illnesses etc.? Thank you

Re: Vaccinations
Hi Alicia - sorry I have only just seen this.
I would get him vacy cinated as soon as possible. You are right about him needing time to settle in but, I prob wouldn't leave it longer than a couple of days, so that you can get his VHD in as soon as possible afterwards. I beleive there are some VHD outbreaks in the north of the UK, and there is a possibilty this could spread south so the sooner the better. I would say that Mixi should be the priority though.
That said - dont panic I am sure he will be perfectly fine.
As for books, there isnt anything that Im aware of im afraid, but you can always come on and ask about anything at any time. As a bunny mummy you will become used to what is normal and you should be able to tell if there is something wrong. They are good at hiding their illnesses but I think you develop an instinct.
The key illnesses buns are prone to are in our Rabbit Care Section, there is some very clear detail there.
Im so glad you are getting your bun......you are going to be brilliant and this bun is going to be very lucky. x

Re: Vaccinations
He's an 18 month old blue butterfly mini lop His owner said he's very laid back, litter trained, has never bitten and is really friendly. He sounds like the perfect rabbit for me

Re: Vaccinations
He's already called Merlin, and I quite like his name so I think he'll stay as Merlin
