Farewell to Wolfie
It has taken a few days to gather my thoughts enough to think of something fitting to write for you my Viking friend. Your departure was so sudden and unexpected.
You came to me as company for Holly. She was a very quiet, docile rabbit who liked to chill out and generally laze about. Not a great bun for cuddles and attention. We felt she was a bit lonely so felt a companion would be a good idea for her.
I contacted our local SSPCA (Scottish version of RSPCA) to see what they had. At that point, all they seemed to have was female rabbits, but they had a litter of buns up in a rescue in Wick (which is at the very top of the mainland). They offered to bring one down for me and I could pick him up in Inverness. So I didn't get to pick you, you just arrived. When I got you home, I noticed you had a cute little tuft of fur between your ears, a bit punk-like. You were also VERY busy and poor Holly got a bit of a shock. You also had a delightful habit of jumping whilst spraying which resulted in a few unexpected smelly showers for me! Luckily, that habit was cured when your little plums were removed.
Unfortunately, your time with Holly was short and then you were on your own. You took this badly as you had always had the company of other rabbits. We noticed you sitting in your hutch during the day which was very unusual as you hated being inside. So we got the glorious Gloria for you ....... and you HATED each other. The problem was you were too bloody alike. Both wanted to be boss. We had to keep you apart and rotate time in the run. You could see each other but not get out to each other. Eventually, one morning you and she managed to get loose and there was an almighty bust up ..... and she emerged the victor. She did occasionally let you sniff the trousers, but I often saw her giving you a bit of a hump just to remind you who was boss. I likened you to the comedy couple off the seaside postcards. Skinny bloke with large buxom wife.
You were a terrible combination, always escaping. Being outside at 10.00 pm in mid-Winter up to my knees in snow trying to catch two WHITE escaped rabbits was particularly memorable. My OH swore a lot that night. Indeed, the whole family swore a lot that night.
Your name Wolfgang Scargiver (to give you your full Viking title) was very evocative especially when you slashed the vet the day before your op. He, the consummate professional, carried on with his examination whilst dripping blood all over the table. Your last little act of defiance. He thought the name very apt too and thought that with that display of ferocity, you would make a good recovery. Unfortunately, you were a lot sicker than we realised and the strain of the infection, operation and GA was just too much for you and you faded away. Your end was peaceful, lying in a warm, comfy box in the quiet. I just wish I could have done more for you.
Now you are at peace with your beloved partner. Joined in death forever as you were in life. Sleep tight my fiesty friend. And don't let Gloria bully you too much.

A fitting tribute to a real character. Sounds to wolfgang scar giver, that u wont be forgotten by those who loved u, nor the vet. The scar u gave the vet is sure to be marvelled at by many a bun to come, thats sticking to ears up the 'the man' - u will become legend no doubt, that u mr viking were not to be messed with ;-)

Re: Farewell to Wolfie
Oh that has made me blub. What a beautiful boy he was. I just can't believe that we have now lost him and Gloria? Two of the most notorious Hoppers. I loved your stories of their escape acts which would often come from a harrassed and flustered sounding you. Despite their mischief you always came across as so full of love for them. It was a sad day when we lost Wolfie but his legend will live on. Binky free sweet man, go find Gloria in the clouds and have everlasting naughtiness xxxx
Re: Farewell to Wolfie
What a fitting tribute to t atrue HH legend. I'll miss Wolfie's escapades enormously, such a character who had a wonderful life with you and his posse.
I like to think that he and Gloria are creating havoc, adn all the other buns at the bridge don't quite know what to do with them...
We'll miss you, crazy man, sleep tight x

Hope you're OK Nickie x
