Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
Thanks
I'm not sure what to do next though. He's eating his hay fine and had no pellets this morning. I'm not sure how much longer I should continue the 'just hay' diet or if to give him a few herbs for tea.
Also not sure if to take him to the vets since he seems fine now.
Any help appreciated!

Might be best to gradually re-introduce veggies one at a time as they might be the trigger for his diarrhoea. Just to be on the safe side

I think if it were me and he was fine, I'd keep up with the hay, give it another day or so, he is at all out of sorts then tale him to the vets at that point. Perhaps a very small amount of pellets to see hoemw he deals with them x

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
I'm wondering if it's too many pellets (as this happened after pellets before greens), the spring greens or because he is simply so lazy therefore causing unformed poops. He munches pellets and hay brilliantly and his teeth were checked not long ago, but he can sleep for a good few hours in the same spot and be so very lazy! Especially with the awful weather at the mo so he can't go outside.
Feels awful feeding one bun but not the other but tigger hasn't had much either since he's always in the way and not very impressed. He managed to get a small piece of dill but that's all he's having!

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
I would be avoiding veg for a few days. When Thumper started getting upset stomachs regularly, her old vet told us to cut out veg altogether. Tbh, I didn't follow that instruction to the letter but I gave her much less kinds of veg. She only got mange tout and the odd bit of carrot. She loved her mange tout so much that she was still happy with what she got
But you know your buns better than anyone
And I'm a bit of a meanie If one wasn't getting, I wouldn't give the other either

Ah yes the little mange tout monster
The only veg I give is spring green and carrot. Herbs wise they can get coriander, parsley, dill and rocket. Do you think it would be wise to give herbs instead of veg for a few days and in small amounts?
I felt so guilty that I didn't give Tigger anymore.

I'm well out of practice on the veg and herb feeding but I *think* herbs would be the better option out of the two.
I'm almost certain but I really hope someone else can confirm. Sorry
And don't beat yourself up about Tigger, you've got to do what you've got to do

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
Herbs are what are recommended for baby bunnies when they reach 12 weeks to introduce green bits, so I imagine it would be the same in this case too. They are lighter on their tummies, and less likely to cause a reaction.
Dougals rescue told me parsley and basil were ideal for ill bunnies and to get them eating again.
I'd go with a tiny bit of herbs and see what happens. More vibes for the gorgeous Jeeves.
I'd feel so guilty giving one of mine something and not the other too

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
I'm glad Jeeves seems to be better
We've given up on spring greens. We get some parsley, a lot of coriander, teeny bit of broccoli or carrot and sometimes a teeny bit of curly kale. Then occasionally a little bit of basil or whatever other herb Humum thinks we might like for a change. We are getting a lot less veg than we used to.

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
We have had some more diarrhoea this morning. Small little dots.
I've booked him in at the vets at 4. Best to get him seen to before the weekend especially if all he had was dill. He seems happy though and is eating hay so that's good

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
We are back from the vets
It wasn't the usual vet that I see as this was I suppose an emergency appointment, they even squeezed me in before their usual surgery times which I found great.
She checked him over for a good half an hour listening to his tummy for ages which sounded fine and wasn't doughy, checked his bum and little bits, checked his teeth saying there were no indentations, absecces or excess saliva. Checked his weight which was pretty much the same as last time, a tiny bit less due to his moult and loss winter fat.
The first question she asked was if we were sure it just wasn't tainted urine to which I managed to pull a sample of the stuff out of my pocket (in a container obviously) and she agreed it definitely was poo.
She was confused though as to how it was being turned on and off saying that usually if it is true diarrhoea then it is like a tap and doesn't stop. (Before we left he did some more solid poos ) so it might be unformed caecotrophs.
She has given me some bio lapis, 5 packs for 5 days and told me to mix that with water and give him one syringe per day. It says on the pack to mix with 50ml of water but apparently I can mix it with less and get more into him that way? Left over can go in bottles.
She has also told me to give him a 9 day course of panacur starting today since he hasn't actually had any just incase there are any little bugs.
She also said to try him on some more food rather than just hay, she suggested broccoli or cauliflower stalk but he has never ever had these (due to me being so worried about possible gas) that I feel, or worry, introducing him could just make it worse. I think I'll stick with herbs.
I had a slight brain wave as I signed onto here though, the past couple of days I have been giving him this 'hay' which has seemed to be more of a dried grass consistency. Might steer clear of that for the next coming days.
Little man flopped out as soon as we got home clearly shattered about everything. Tigger didn't seem to be impressed having to tag along She was weighed too and did the great trick of hanging one foot off the scales trying to make herself appear lighter.
Thanks for all your vibes hoppers, Jeeves says thanks too All seems well so far, will keep you updated on the little funny one.

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
I'm glad it's nothing serious, and what a fab vet spending all that time to make sure he is ok
You might have a point about the hay, if it is more like grass. Readi-grass can give buns sticky bums....

Glad Jeeves is doing ok. Readi-grass make my two drink loads too, so if it does that hay like it could do anything.
I hope he's ok tonight, the gorgeous boy, tell Tigger I do that too
to you, from one poorly bun owner to another

I'll be sure to let her know. She's adamant she's big boned
I gave him a very small amount of herbs tonight after his probiotic and panacur.

Re: Jeeves- diarrhoea? U/D pg 5
I didn't want to update yesterday incase it tempted fate, but yesterday was a good day!
Thursday night I didn't give any of the grassy type 'hay', just their regular stuff, he had his panacur and probiotic and some herbs. The next day we had lovely normal poops so I gave him a very small amount of pellets and still, normal poops.
Last night I maintained my no grassy 'hay' rule, he had his panacur, probiotic, herbs but I also gave him 4 stamp size pieces of Spring Green.
This morning as I walked in I caught him doing a little patch of light brown substance. It wasn't dark or like water, it had a bit of texture to it. I then saw him eating his C's and when he moved there was a tiny bit of the same sort of thing left. I bobbed down to look under their platform for anymore but there was none, as I did so he climbed up and rested his front paws on my head and he was a bit whiffy down there. Shortly after he did a solid poo...
So now I'm, almost certain that these are unformed cecotropes, they just seem to have lightened up in colour and have luckily got more of a form to them now. Is panacur known to lighten up cecotropes?
He had a few pellets this morning but tonight he won't get any spring greens - trying to eliminate the problem!

I'd bin the spring greens. There are plenty of other things you can give them. Both our lot and the Tuckerbunnies had loads of problems earlier in the year which seemed to be related to spring greens.
