Indoor hutch Empty Indoor hutch

Hey guys

So my last thread on housing was the idea of a wardrobe hutch. We've had a play around and tried to see if we could make it work... but it would appear I have too many clothes, shoes and bags ( Embarassed ) and the amount of stuff I have just wont fit in an ordinary wardrobe and chest of drawers with the lay out of my room (I've got far too much stuff.. and that's with a clean out! Embarassed )

Anyway, I've come up with a new plan. I'm planning on making an indoor hutch which will just be under 6 ft long and have three levels.

Here is a the photo of the space where the hutch will go (with Oggie's bum) -

and here is an extremely rough sketch of the plan (please note this is only a sketch and the dimensions etc are all wrong... I just wanted to get the idea down on paper!).

I'm planning for each level to be accessed by jumping rather than using ramps and taking up space but any advise on this would be fab. I'm planning for the second level to be just a little taller than there average indoor cages that they use at the moment. They both jump on these all the time so I'm hoping that the height won't be an issue. I've added a little jumping shelf to reach the third level.

In the sketch, the cage has storage on top but we're not 100% sure whether that will happen or not yet.

I'm also asking for advise about materials. Its been absolutely ages since my dad has built a hutch... probably when I was around 8!

Our buns much prefer hop-up shelves to ramps, just put carpet or something grippy on them Thumbs Up

What's going to be over the front? I'd mesh the top bit so they can see out - buns are soooo nosey Rolling Eyes Embarassed Laughing

Materials - untreated tile lath or planed softwood would be fine for the frames (they'll only eat it anyway) and ply for the sides. You don't need the get very thick ply, as it is only going to be indoors.

Fab, thank you Sparky! Very helpful.

There is going to be two mesh doors at the front to let light in. Hadn't thought of meshing the top but love the idea.
