Worried about Willow...
I went in to see the bunnies late this morning and I noticed that Willow had left a few very dark (pretty much red) puddles of wee. I didn't think much of it as she can be territorial and so I just wiped it up, filled up their hay and carried on with my day...
I just went in to check on them now and there was a few more puddles as well as a few trails. Her ears felt quite cold too and she's not touched any of the hay I left her, however she's accepting Mini Shredded Wheats and pellets with gusto and it's not that unusual for her to spend most of the afternoon snoozing.
I've given her a dose of Baytril as the vet gave me a huge bottle for situations like this and I'm going to try her on that for a while and see if it clears up, but part of me is a little bit frightened that it actually is blood coming out of her. I am a huge worrier when it comes to Willow for obvious reasons that most of you know, but what do you all think? Vet/no vet? How soon?
Thanks guys

Re: Worried about Willow...
To be honest, I would probably have risked the spay by now rather than worry every time she is a bit off. You could always give the vet a ring and see what they say?
I know there is a way to tell if it is blood rather than red urine, but can't remember what it is. I think it involves blotting it up and making it wet again - one of the other Hoppers may know...

Re: Worried about Willow...
If it soaks up on kitchen towel and goes orange and stays orange as it dries it is pigmentation form food etc, if it soaks up red and dries brown it is blood.

I'm sorry to hear willow is off again bless her.
I really think you should consider asking your vet to contact John for his opinion on this. I really think he will be able to help.
Sending you hugs hunni - I know what a worry it can be having buns that can be poorly at any time, it's stressful and hard.
Sending you my love xx

Re: Worried about Willow...
Thank you all
Willow made such brilliant progress pretty much by herself that I didn't even consider the spay. The spay has - and I think, always will be - been a 'last resort' option for us i.e. when there's nothing else to lose and the only other option is PTS. Call me selfish, but I just don't want to put her or me through it unless I absolutely have to.
I'm going to go and do the kitchen roll test if there is any more there. Will let you guys know what it shows.

Re: Worried about Willow...
I know where you are coming from, but realistically by the time you get to the PTS option there will be no spay option as any tumor will have spread throughout her body and be inoperable.

Re: Worried about Willow...
That's probably true Cheryl.
I feel as though I am being really selfish in saying this, but my vet has told me that if we go ahead and spay her there is a very big chance that she might not get through the surgery. In that case, I will have then lost her months and, quite probably, years before I had to say goodbye if we'd have left her. I know there is a chance that she could pull through the spay, therefore buying her extra years on top of that, but after going back and forth for the longest time I realised I needed to make a decision, and so that's what I decided.
Willow will never suffer whilst she's with me. I only want what's best for her and whilst a preventative spay could be that, I could also lose her so much sooner than I would have and I could never live with that
There was no more pee for me to mop up and test which is annoying, but good, all at the same time!

Re: Worried about Willow...
Thanks BugsBunny
I know it is selfish of me but I could spend forever going back and forth about what I am going to do, so I have now decided that I'm sticking to what I've said, otherwise the whole subject will be a constant stress...
Willow seemed pretty content when I sorted them for the night. She was happy to go out into the hallway and eat her evening pellets, and there wasn't anymore pee. I'm *hoping* it was just a bit of overreaction on my part, but we'll see what the morning brings. Will keep you all posted xxx

Re: Worried about Willow...
Could it be something she has eaten as some foods can make their wee very red, just found this if it is of any help . You probably know that so sorry if you do It's an interesting read anyway
http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-1/red-urine.html
I know some decisions are tough and nobody knows our bunnies like we do and so we do what we think is best for them, we are going through the same with Arfa but like you we know we are doing the best we can and that's all you can do sometimes.

Re: Worried about Willow...
How is Willow today? I hope everything is back to normal.
For what it is worth, either Gabriel or Spring has had red wee for a couple of weeks now pretty much every day. I did worry it was blood at first and even considered seeing whether it would register on Chris diabetic glucose monitor However having let the newspaper that they wee on dry out it dried as a red/orange colour so I reasoned it wasn't blood. They only have a small amount of carrot twice a week so it cannot be that. One (or more) of the threesome has had red wee on and off too so I am sure it is diet related but cannot pinpoint it.
That was an interesting read Maysie, thank you. As far as I can tell all the buns are weeing normally. Do bunny worries ever end?

Re: Worried about Willow...
Thank you all for asking I've had a really hectic day so only just getting a minute to reply...
Well, I'm not really sure what to think. One minute her ears are boiling, she doesn't want her pellets and she keeps flopping. The next, she and Mojo are taking themselves into the garden, binkying like loons, and she's eating her hay and grass like normal?
It is a stress as I keep looking at her and thinking she's just not 100% but I don't feel she needs to see a vet at this moment in time. She's still peeing and I am keeping her on the antibiotics but it's quite normal for her to go a few days every few weeks being a bit territorial, it must be her hormones...
Thank you for the link Maysie. I will have a look at that when I get the chance
As for me, I am feeling better and better every day and my chest x-ray results came back perfectly fine so that's a big relief Life is really busy and stressful at the moment but you keep on plodding through, don't you?

Re: Worried about Willow...
Thank you Holly
Willow is peeing everywhere again. I had to give her a bum bath when I got home from work as she was saturated. I'm now in the bunny bad books
I'm going to see how she goes over the next few days but if not I have no idea what I'm going to do. Vibes that it passes soon please!!

Re: Worried about Willow...
might be worth waying up your options especially so close to summer, being saturated in wee for the day could lead to flystrike, but i understand its such a hard decision. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse.
