Hay - is there enough to go round?
Yesterday I went back to the local farm to get another bale of hay - a bargain at £3
I'm not sure if they will have any left when I go back again. The farmer is running low and with the dratted weather has had no chance to cut more.
I felt for the farmer, he told me he has acres of harvesting to do

I had been concerned about this too. I buy my hay in bulk from a Farm and so far they are OK for supplies........

I don't buy from a farm but I have noticed the quality nose dive lately

Carlton loves Excel Forage but it's really gone to poop with all the bad weather and harvest over the last few months. Luckily I've been able to get bits from The Hay Experts, I tried the Taster Pack and there's a couple he really enjoyed that I've since bought in.

The harvest has been pretty rubbish, it's probably not going to improve (this Indian Summer we were supposed to have isn't showing up anytime soon) and I think around Christmas/January 09 the price will really rocket, especially as the lambing starts. A lot of farmers will start holding back their stuff for their livestock - I know we won't have any extra silage to sell this year which is going to mean a tight few months.
(Anyone wanting to help farmers in need can check out www.rabi.org.uk RABI doesn't prop up the farmers businesses, but it will support farmers having trouble with bills, sickness, or those who have retired and are in danger of losing their houses.)
The country won't run out of hay, because it can be imported and also grown under lights and stuff by big coroprations, but the quality will go down and the price up. Sorry folks.
