Myxi vaccination shortage
Has anyone received similar? This makes me uneasy.
Dear Miss ,
According to our records Molly and Junior are due a Myxomatosis vaccination in the next couple of months.
We are writing to inform you that unfortunately there is a manufacturing problem with Myxomatosis vaccines which means we are unable to get single dose vaccines until November at the earliest.
We are able to source an alternative multidose vaccine. However this product is sufficient for 50 rabbits and has a very short shelf life(4 hours).
To offer a practical solution to the shortage and ensure continued protection for our client's rabbits we propose holding a rabbit vaccination clinic on a set date to allow optimum use of the 50 dose bottle by vaccinating all rabbits on the same day.
If you would like to attend the clinic please call or email us to have your name added to our waiting list.
Once a suitable number of patients are available to attend, we will call you to confirm the date and time of your appointment.
Please be aware there may be a delay between this date and your rabbit's booster due date but we will do all we can to minimise this.
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
It's been all over Facebook re the shortage but I've not had a communication from my vets yet as they are trying to minimise the messiness of communication by waiting till they know when the vaccine is arriving - allegedly "mid-September".... the downside of that is if they leave it too late people might not be available to attend
I've had two vaccinated this morning who weren't due until 16 and 20 of this month as my OCD got the better of me (there's also confirmed VHD in this area so I'm really not messing about with this!). I'm now worrying about the 2 due in October and November
We are definitely having a block booking of a vaccination clinic 2 - 6pm "probably" on a Wednesday but to be confirmed. *Sigh* I hate all this.
Without doubt some people are not going to be able to get their rabbits vaccinated when they are due and that's just not acceptable, it's a major mess up on MSD's behalf.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
I haven't received anything like this from my vet either hun but I agree, it is alarming. Holly has had her vacs back in June but I am just wondering if the problem is going to be resolved shortly for the sake of other bunnies and their mums. I agree Big Ears hunny, it is a disgrace!!

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
I have read about it on FB .
Mine were vaccinated a month ago.
What I don't understand is there only one company manufacturing the vaccination?

I've read something, *I think* on Facebook that says they (JC's practice) are on low stock so prioritising those that haven't been vaccinated before

I should read our vet's Facebook page to see if there is anything on there, I am just not a fan of FB.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
Screw up indeed!
I'm talking to my vet and another in the area. If the other vet can fit my two in closer to their due date than mine can then I'm just going to go there. When it comes to protecting Molly and Junior, loyalty to my vet goes out the window.
I'm also not hopeful that my vet will get anywhere near the 50 rabbits needed for the "do them all in one go" idea.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
I just heard about this from the rescue we foster for, sounds awful. How worrying for rescues and owners to possibly have gaps in their rabbit's protection from such an awful disease. Hope they get it sorted out soon. The mass clinics to get dozens done in a 4 hour slot sound like a logistical nightmare.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
It is dreadful. I watched Animal 999 today (I don't usually as it upsets me) and whilst they could have been recorded a while back one of the inspectors say that Myxi was rife. I really hope it was a long time ago!!!

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
One of my outdoor bunnies has just been diagnosed with myxomatosis I also know that VHD is in this area. I'm just so *** angry with the vaccine suppliers.
It's likely that Anarchy has the 'atypical' version as his vaccination is up to date (done last 10 months ago) but I don't want anybody going past their due date given the dangers are so great. I can't bear the thought of losing them to anything that was preventable.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that. Is he very unwell or does he have a mild form? Either way, not good newsBig Ears wrote:One of my outdoor bunnies has just been diagnosed with myxomatosis I also know that VHD is in this area. I'm just so *** angry with the vaccine suppliers.

I am also rather peed off about this. We don't need this extra worry!!!

He's not unwell he just *touch wood* has a swollen nose, for the moment. How he presents now FHB is as confident as you can be that it will be the 'atypical' ie nodular/mild form of it. He's likely just to have a sore nose and the scab drop off in about 2 weeks time.... that's what we are anticipating.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
They are just holding fire at johns but will call as soon as the vacs are available. They do have some, but are giving priority to buns that have never been vaccinated.
I haven't had a chance to chat to john about it , but with daisy being long term poorly I'm hoping that doesn't put him at greater risk.

Re: Myxi vaccination shortage
I have booked in with my vet for Monday evening because I think Vernon has got pesky teeth. He is eating slowly and not all of it and is a little subdue. I can hear some noises when moving his jaws. He is getting metacam until then. I will ask what the situation is here. I don't think there is many bunnies that they are looking after, most of them I know. If there are spare ones maybe they can be rescheduled to oth vets that have more bunny clientele .
