My heart goes out to you as we have been down this long long road with Pud and his chest was raspy as well.

I really hope things look up for Pumpkin

Sending hugs Hugs

His chest had been clear all year till a few weeks ago when we nearly lost him .. the vet said she didnt think he would come back from it.... He is doing better than expected and is living a good quality of life again for now .., pray and hope for more but am being realistic ... all I can do is take each day as it comes and look after him the best I can.

Thank you for your kind thoughts...

Dawn

That's all you can do take each day as it comes and look after him the best you can
You are doing a wonderful job of caring for him as well Hugs

Pumpkin is so lucky to have you. You are doing everything you possibly andirons him. It's great to hear he is still well in spirit.

I really hope this combo of meds work for him.

Fingers crossed that your next update is a really really positive one Smile

Hi,

we have been managing.... Oxy seemed to do the trick and his chest cleared up . It was obvious there had been some peminant damage but still ... felt kind of positive to have him here and his quality of life was good....

Then today... he'd been outside as normal.. Had a nap, woke startled and unbalanced, for the past 10 hours his balance is terrible. He is back on Oxy, ranitidine, forte pred , loxicam.... He is very with it and eating a little... hoping the Oxy will work somehow but he has never been like this. Its frightening.

Presuming its either the infection has spred to his brain or the wax build up is to much....is it the start of head tilt ... not sure ... Vet will reassess in 2 dys...

Poor little Pumpkin... Sad so sad .. have been crying all day.... x

Hugs Many vibes are being sent for Pumpkin and you. Have you tried massaging behind the ear down to behind the jaw bone. Rabbits get clogged Eustachian tubes just like we humans do and sometimes that can help relieve the pain a bit.

Many thanks for this... I have seen the page before, it is good to read it again x

I didnt know about the massage bit and will try that...

Even though his balance isnt good he is still full of beans , wanted to go out but I didnt let him worried about him getting cold... He sat by french doors instead and ate grass.. Just taking each few hours at a time....

Oh I am so sorry to read this I have been wondering how Pumpkin has been getting on.

Massaging behind the ears is a good thing I am a great believer in massage for rabbits it's surprising how massage can help. I'd certainly give it a try .

Hello Hugs its good to see you again Very Happy

Ive been massaging behind his ear... down to his jaw.. not sure how much pressure to apply but he seems to like it, I got a chomp chomp... Thumbs Up

He doesnt like being locked in his cage even though its 4ft x 3 x 3ft , he keeps pacing .. so took him outside in the sun this afternoon and sat with him , he munched grass... he is back in bed sleeping , he seems calmer after his ear massage.

When he is out of his cage he keeps running even though he is unbalanced...he doesnt seem to understand he is unbalanced... Im frightened that wobbling around like this might make him worse .. Should I keep him locked in or not ? Not sure what to do for the best. Would appreciate any advice... Just want to make him as comfortable as possible...

Rabbits adapt to changes rather well. Perhaps that in the wild only those that could adapt quickly lived? Don't know. Suspect Unless Pumpkin is a climber I'd let him out and about as usual in the house. Just watch him a bit more carefully. Talk to him reassuringly too. That way he will know that you see there is a problem and it will be OK. I found that when I explain things to our bunns they seem to accept things better. I doubt they truly understand, but who knows? Wink I wouldn't let him outside to roam unless you are right there. Predators that would normally not approach might if they sense he is impaired.

I'm glad the massage seems to be helping. If you can find a way to apply some gentle heat to that area it can also help reduce pain. I've only been successful enough with the heat application with one bunny because the others were too wiggly. I'd think it would work on anybun if you could keep it still. The only luck I had with this was heating a small smoothed rock to a 'baby bottle' warm and holding it at an angle behind the ear to behind the jaw.

I hope Pumpkin gets better very soon. Hugs to you and a gentle nuzzle to Pumpkin.

I'd let Pumpkin out as well I think if anything this will help rather than him being locked in his cage and getting stressed as stress can cause so many more problems.

I wont let him go out on his own, he is to poorly.. I stayed with him the whole time today as he sat in the sun... he is a bit of a sunbather and thought the warm might help his ear. Ive been using a hot water bottle and then putting my heated hand on the back of his ear and massaging... He seems to like it.... Ive got some smoothed rocks off the beach so will give them a try.

Thanks so much for your advice, it has helped today.

Thanks to everyone for their support dont think i could do it without you all... this forum is amazing. Hugs

Sorry I should have put 'Pumpkin' not 'Punpkin' don't tell him!

I'm on the Norfolk/Suffolk border in a village outside of Brandon if you've heard of it, about 15 minutes from Thetford.

Today started off ok... he is still eating and running about. Early evening he even tried to have sex with his toy bun Shocked Yeah dont worry Pumnpkin you cant balance but still want sex !!!!!

This evening after going to the toilet I checked his under side ... all ok but then noticed he went over to much into a trance.. I never trance the buns.

His head was going round in circle motions and so was his eye .... this is head tilt or the start of it I suppose ...I put him upright straight away and his head/eye stopped moving ..... It was really frightening even Pumpkin was breathing rapidly like what just happened .... Really sad Crying or Very sad all evening...

Vets tomrorow ... will update.

I can tell that Pumpkin is getting a BUNCH of love and care from you. Love makes a difference. Sometimes it isn't apparent, but that doesn't mean it isn't at work. Being healthy is a wonderful thing, but being loved is even better...it touches your soul. I believe our beloved pets have a soul of some kind and our love can touch it and make the difficult things not be as difficult. Hugs

Hello,

Just got back from the vets.

Vet says that the infection in his ear has moved to the middle ear (think ive got that right) and this is what is causing the dizziness. He seems a little better in last couple of days so to carry on with all the meds , she wants to see him in a week or before if he gets worse. He has lost weight ...

Last night when we accidently tranced him he was dizzy straight away , tonight when the vet tranced him it took a lot longer ..hopefully that is a good sign... it was horrible as when he was put down on the floor afterwards he fell right over... he was able to right himself.... and bound round... COME ON PUMPKIN !!!!!!! He is so moody .... just love that x

She says to carry on masaging his ear but not to use heat as she is worried in his case that it might cause further inbalance.....

At least they can treat an ear infection. Some of the other things that his wobbles can be from are not as treatable(like a stroke). The poor little mite may be on antibiotics for life.
