Oh, Cant believe I didnt realise this thread was about Pumpkin after you mentioned him on the other thread - Sorry. Hope the C + S shows something up, in order to find a treatment. These ears are such pesky things. X

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Hi,
We havent had a great weekend Pumpkins ear seems worse with the spasms.
Just called the vet, there is nothing growing on the culture from his ear swab. We are going to continue with the culture growth for another 3-4 dys. In the meantime we are starting him on Baytril ....
Hope and pray this antibiotic works otherwise he has to have an aneseathetic and his ear washed out/x rayed.

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Fingers crossed for him hun.
I think it might be a good idea to get the ear x-rayed, hopefully this will show something up that the swabs have missed.
Sending the gorgeous little guy some cuddles and hugs for you too hun, you must be exhausted with it.
There is nothing quite like a poorly bunny to test the nerves.....

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Hi,
Sorry I havent been about, its been a difficult week with both buns being ill and personal stuff going on...
Pumpkin is no better at all....so the Baytril hasnt worked.... He is going in on Friday morning to have his ear washed out and also /head/jaw x ray... he will have his teeth closely looked at again... but they seem fine... Really worried about why we cant get it sorted...
Metacam seems to be helping him in the meantime...

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
thank you so much for your good wishes... it has been such a long day...
Pumpkin is home... vet x rayed his head/jaw etc... and cleared his ear out.
There was so much wax they had to use a dog catheter to get it out.... it was full of dead ear mites/pus... the inflammation etc they think is due to an allergy to ear mites, which is unusual... Pumpkin has lost his ear drum
Poor little man. He has now been given a steriod drop for his ear to calm everything down. Have to go back next week.
He is doing well considering... started eating tonight so could get some more metacam in him, which has made him comfortable.
Just hoping the inflammation can settle now...
thanks for the support.

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
I have been following this thread with interest as one of our bunnies Pud scratches at his ears a lot and then we check them and get huge lumps of wax out. When we got him he was being treated for ear mites and was also allergic to the mites.
The other day when it was very hot he collapsed and we thought it was the sun but I am now wondering if it was something to do with his balance due to his ears as we got some more wax out his ears. He is ok inbetween.
We have got him booked in at the vets on Tuesday and we are going to ask her to check his ears but he may need an x-ray like Pumpkin.
Hopefully Pumkin will now improve he is on the Steroid drop I certainly hope so.
Topping up the 'healing' vibes for him xxxxxxxxx

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Thanks for your best wishes
Pumpkin is recovering well and even insisted on going into the garden today. I only let him out for 20 mins as I didnt want him to over do it, he was cross when I brought him back in.... its good he has some attitude.
Tuckers, ppor Pud... hope he will be ok.. let us know how he gets on on Tues.. Pumpkin is tolerating his steriod drops well... We go back next Thurs.
I am wondering if his ear drum can grow back at all.. I must do a little research.

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Hi ,
Just done some research and it looks like perforated eardrums can grow back but with large areas of eardrum missing they cant not sure how this is going to effect him.
My main concern is the spasming of the ear/face/eyelid its still going... Im hoping this is due to inflammation and not the missing eardrum ...

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Its been a long week but finally after ear wash, and now on his 3rd lot of Septrin with steriod drops.... Thank God, the spasming in his ear/face seems to be calming just in the past 48 hrs... its been such a long rd nearly 3mths I so hope this is turning the corner now..
I havent been on as Ive been so down about everything... Vet said last week that the spasming might be there forever and all I could think about was Pumpkin having to live like this constantly... just kept praying everyday for him to get better...
He is so much happier in himself.... we go back to the vets Thurs hoping against the odds that he will heal completely... we are still unsure if his eardrum will grow back... not sure how long this takes... his hearing doesnt seem affected though.

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Went to the vets today.. and got the best news... Pumpkins ear drum is growing back... we didnt think it would happen but it is...
The spasming is still there but only slightly ... he will continue on with antibiotic and steriod drops for another 2wks.
There is still sign of infection in the ear though so just hoping we can completely get this under control .

Re: Ear mites / Ear infection update
Gosh I didn't know the ear drum could grow back that's fantastic news I'm so happy for you and Pumpkin
We are having problems with Pud and his ear, when we gave him a home with us he had severe ear mites and I think they did a lot of damage to his ear and wouldn't be surprised if that's why he is deaf. We are waiting for the culture test results at the moment.

The vet was very negative about the eardrum growing back.... but its amazing.... we are still worried that the ear / face spams might be perminant ... but as they have just started reducing we are hoping that is a good sign...
Sending lots of bunny hugs to little Pud , hope he will be ok... We had to wait 4-5 dys for bacterial culture and another 5 days for yeast infection results from same swab.... so that 10 dys for full results to be back..
Hope that helps.

Yes we were told about 10 days and he had his ear flushed out on the 14th June as I've just looked at the receipt so it should be no doubt Monday when our vet is back. It seem's forever when you are waiting doesn't it !
