Re: Domino has an abscess
i have to wait until the 23rd when we go back , and then we will decide if we need to change how we give the abx.
the mat came today, is alot harder than what i expected unfortunately, but its firm but wont rub so i guess thats the main thing.

Re: Domino has an abscess
Well he has stopped eating his meds of his food. he is eating but not like the usual Domino, he has a bit and then goes and lays down, so not impressed with meds on food.
had to do it orally yesterday and he went mental, eventually he would tolerate it near his mouth if my friend stroked his head, but he wouldnt take it. then he grabbed it probably to push it away and i got it in!
When I go into the shed now though he cowers Yesterday when I went in he was leaning against the wall and was pressing himself against the wall with his eyes closed and he flinced every step I took and he was shaking, its horrible.
I am suprised he is acting this "badly" after just five days of meds. it doesnt bode well really does it.

Re: Domino has an abscess
Sorry to hear that the patient is not being patient any more.
Felix acts like this too. It hurts to see them cowering and trying to desperately get away from you, but you have to keep it in perspective. You know what you're doing is necessary but they don't understand it. You just have to be very matter of fact and do the deed to help them.
I wrap Felix in a towel when I give him oral meds. I syringe just a little in and wait and then I see his tongue lapping. It isn't easy when they struggle but if they are restrained they are less likely to hurt themselves or you and you know all the meds go where they are meant to which is important.

Re: Domino has an abscess
Oh it's such a worry, but as much as he hates it you have to do what you have to do Katie's Daisy had a bad time with Septrin, then came back to life when it was changed to Baytrill - You just don't know what to do?
Try and stay clam and strong, difficult I know

Re: Domino has an abscess
Well he showed me didnt he!!
Went in there, scooped him up and thought il try it without a towel first, and he just sat there and as soon as it went near his mouth he bit it, in it went, and then he was back on the floor! He doesnt mind the taste of it, once its in his mouth he eats it fine, he just hates things near his mouth. He is a nightmare getting his teeth checked at the vets etc.
But he has been very good this morning
Maybe he is learning if he co operates its over sooner?!
Back to uni today. Bit worried as you can imagine, im not back until the 22nd.

Re: Domino has an abscess
I miss him, I'm at uni now and I just worry my parents wont notice something like I would.
i am very worried because to me the abscess looks so much worse it looks so big now, and its happening so quickly. They wont do anything until he has had his 14 day course.
I might take him to the specialist Peanut went to, but I dont know if she is the best person. I want to take him to the best place but I just dont know where that is.
I was okay about it until I got back here, I know they said it because they care and if they hadnt i would feel hurt, but as soon as i told my housemates they gave me a big hug and were like "oh no not domino" and i just felt so scared.
Im trying so hard to be optimistic but I am very aware TIME is the biggest factor, you need to do whats right first.
Does anyone have any advice?! x

Re: Domino has an abscess
Sorry to hear things are not any better with Domino. I can understand your anxiety being away from home and also just not knowing what to do for best.
Hopefully the Septrin will work and kill the infection, I'm sure there are other abx to try if necessary.
Sending you calming vibes and vibes for Domino too. I've been all anxious again over the last few days as Paddy's hocks have got worse despite the foam matting. We're going to have to try dressing them again even though he hated the dressings before. I don't think there's any infection, but they have got more bald. x

Re: Domino has an abscess
Mum says he is okay, gone back to eating meds of food which is good. I guess we wont know too much until we see the vet again in a weeks time.
I trust her completely, its just hard being away from him when hes poorly.

Re: Domino has an abscess
He isnt on it yet, they are in the boarding room on soft rugs and hay at the moment. The shed is being changed for them, the run is now 5 x 5 instead of 10 x 5, it has to be covered in hay and covered ten foot is just too much it will take a whole bale so for the mean time its just going to be 5 x 5 foot, and dads painted it all and laying the floor in it ready. they will go in it this weekend.
