Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
he seems fine accept the wonky head- looks like he has had fun trashing the place and lots of quite heavy toys have moved (like heavy balls made of rope) so thats not accidental- je must have put some effort into moving that so I think he has actually played bit today

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
I have to say that he really does sound good. I don't know wnough about how this (EC) normally progresses, to know if this is normal or not, but whether it is or isn't EC, it doesn't sound as if he's an unhappy little guy does it?
I's feeling cautiously optimistic

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
I am feeling more optimistic- it could be a heck of alot worse, and from a nursing point of view he is so good at taking his Meds and being handled it isn't stressful at all- the stress come feo
Watching him like a crazed women and thinking he is dead when actually he is asleep! (can you imagine what I was like with Yasi when she was tiny?!!! Lol)
I think I will sleep tonight, little man is definaltley doing better, but first I'm off to the cina to perv over Edward Cullen, and Jacob, no Edward, no Jacob, ok both ... *licks lips*

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
This may be a question too far - but how can you tell it is E.C. by looking at a buns eyes?

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
Only because first sign of him having anything wrong at all was a cloudy Mark in the centre of his right eye, like puss behind the pupil (if you type in Rorys eye into the search doodah there will be a thread with a picture). He stopped eating it was so severe, and quickley so - was referred to an eye specialist vet in Abingdon who could see the effects of the parasite in Rorys eye using his special eye camera- apparently OT was a typical symptom of EC - so mich so the vet got all the other eta to come and look to give them the example. Thats as much as I comprehend! I dint fully understand it- though Jay or Maysie might be able to explain it I keep thinking his eye is infected but it's actually scarring from the parasite which becomes inflamed hence the need for anti inflammitorys - *baffled* xx

What a wee trooper he is. I really hope he is improving and is enjoying his life even if it is a bit frustrating for him. Sending lots of vibes to him and you.

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
Becki, ears, eyes, and respiratory system are all interlinked and disease found in one can present itself in another, so I can see why John woudl say that it's noy conclusively EC and you shoudl be investigating other avenues.
Rory is a fancy breed, and as such is prone to certian conditions, that affect ears, eyes and respiratory.
This below is just an example, taken from
Here
Richard Saunders did say the EC is difficult to diagnose without testing.
I'm not saying your eye speciliast is wrong, far from it, but that there is a chance it's not EC, and without a positive diagnosis, you could be treating him for something he doesn't have.
How's he doing today?

Visual
The altered shape of the skull of lops puts pressure on the eyes which can cause bulging (exophthalmos) and infections, and tear duct function is compromised. If the tear ducts cannot function properly, the eyes will not receive vital lubrication. They will be dry, and likely sore and prone to infection as pathogens and/or dust or other particles become lodged in the tear ducts. Ducts may need frequent flushing by a vet, and in the worst cases, an abscess may form behind one or both eyes, and the eye(s) may have to be removed. Removal of the eye(s) permanently alters the rabbit, and not just physically. To a prey species that requires full sensory perception to enable any form of relaxation, the consequence of full or partial removal of a primary sense creates a nervous, fearful and stressed rabbit.

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
So tricky isn't it! He seems good today, I do think his head looks like it is slightly straighter too. He Had a bit of a run around the loung earlier- but did do a bit of spinning as well. He came over to me earlier whilst I was knelt on the floor and just pit his head in my lap, he wants more affection now which is more like him than the poor bun hiding under the log roll like he was at the beginning of the week. He has starte the Baytril today and a bigger dose of metacam. See how he goes

I didn't know cat metacam was useless for bunnies, is the dog version better.Jay wrote:John is a real stickler for getting a positive diagnosis, and X-Rays for nearly everything. It's tricky when you have two very clever people who can't agree, but ultimately, without a definitive test, both could be right. Didn't realise he was on cat metacam -it's pretty useless for buns. If anything, your vets will have learnt so much through Rory's plight, that will help buns in the future Becki
Glad he's gonna get Baytrill and the Metacam dose is upped, hope he's ok x
I've only ever been given cat metacam?
And you trust the vets!

AFAIK, It's just not strong enough - the only reason I say that is that I've not known my specialist use the cat one at all, always gives the dog one. I did ask him why, and he just said it was far more effective.
Glad Rory's ok, Becki
Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
Apparently the cat one is just a third of he strength of the dog one I am told

Re: Rory head tilt :( * photos may be upsetting*
He is makin really good progress thank you his head is almost upright and seems well in every other aspect. He is still not using his litter tray, I hope this isn't because he feels disorientated and more because I have changed the things in his bed around so much over te last couple of weeks tryin to find the most comfortable set up that I have confused him. He has started jumping on and off his log roll again which is a normal favourite game that he couldn't have done a few days ago so pleased with that
