Re: Vibes for Hermy and Janak - She's gone
Hi guys, sorry I haven't replied...
I am so worried about her, I just feel like bawling my eyes out right now.
Just a lo down -
she was spayed on wednesday, and hasn't really eaten since. A little nibble after surgery, but thats it... NOT enough for her massive appetite. I made sure she was given matacam painkiller. Friday came, and food stopped all together. Took her to the vets, and she was given another metacam injection, fibreplex and recovery feed. she was also given matacam oral so she's not in any pain, while at home. After we got back from the surgery, I gave her a handful of dandelions, and she scoffed them all. Nothing again after that.
I decided to bring in the recovery, fibreplex... along with the oral metacam i was giving her, that friday afternoon. Ive been syringing her since.
She's had loads of tummy rubs, and I could feel movement in there. Yesterday, was exacly the same. She is still bright in herself, and still struggling to take meds, so she still has some kick in her.
BTW - no poos or wees I have seen since surgery
This morning, I woke up at 3am and I gave her Recovery, metacam and her fibreplex, still not eaten for drank . i did the same at 6am again. I booked an emergency appointment with the vets, and my dad took her down (while i was at work). I wrote down a whole A4 page about her condition, and what I think is wrong with her, and gave it to my dad and told him to give it to the vet. The vet at first, thought she had a throat infection (which actually gave me hope...) so, he admitted her for the day. (Oscar went with her, I could NOT sepereate them) She was given an IV drip and a metoclopramide injection, hopefully to get her going. The vet said she was probably not eating becuase she was dehydrated, and not to do with her throat... I was syringing her water, but obviously not enough . My dad took some veggies with him, and the vet said he saw her nibbling on some carrot and apple. She was discharged at 4pm, on the basis that she had started eating.
Now she is home, I am getting VERY VERY worried with her. She is still refusing to eat. I have tried everything, bread, cake, biscuits, dandelion, even chocloate.... ANYTHING I think she can eat, but theres nothing I can do that can make her eat. There is still no poos. As Theo said to me on the phone, she's not eating anything, so I can't be expecting any poos or wees. I am continuing with the recovery and fibreplex
Thank you so much Theo, for being there over the phone, you have been a saviour.
I can't think of anything else to do... I'm thinking of taking her to the rabbit specialist vet, (Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic - which is further away) for a second opinion. Theo has very kindly offered to come down and help me, but I seriously can't think of anything else that I can do. I'm making sure she isn't in any pain, and giving her Metacam every 12 hours.

Re: Vibes for Hermy and Janak - She's gone
Oh Janak, I am so sorry you and Hermy are going through this.
I wish could offer some advice. I assume you will have offered her grass to eat. Baby fruit puree is something else you could try to tempt her with/syringe her with.
Did the vet today have a thorough look inside her mouth? There is no chance there is a problem with her teeth is there which may have co-incided with the spay? Am hazy on bunny anaesthesia, will she have had a tube in her mouth/throat which may have left her sore and unwilling to eat?
Am still sending loads of vibes and hugs and pray that Hermy picks up soon xxx

Re: Vibes for Hermy and Janak - She's gone
Thank you so much guys...
Theo has just been over, and has been trying to help her eat as well. She gave Hermy 60mls of critical care in the space of an hour, and some other meds as well which I can't remember! She also left me some Infacol too, which i will give her soon.
We tried everything to get her to eat by herself, but theres nothing she will take . She is not herself at all... usually she is a springy bouncy girl, but now she look tired, and just sits in one corner. She was very reluctant to move when we were trying to stimulate her to walk about. wierdly, she is still bright in herself, aware of her surroundings and inquisitve.. she doesn't appear to be like a sick rabbit...
Thank you so much . I have tried grass, but she left it there as it is. I might try the baby food too actually.
She is off to the cat and rabbit care clinic tomorrow, and she will have the best possible care there. They specialise in rabbits, so a good second opinion might help. I will definatley mention to the vet about the tube going down her throat.. Jane mentioned that too on another forum.
thank you so much for the vibes, we all have our fingers crossed that she will start eating by herself soon its been a long time now!

Oh hun I can't believe you are going through all this. I know how awful it to have a poorly bun. I have everything crossed for you here. Bless Theo for coming over. You are doing everything possible sweetie. This is why I HATE darn spays. Argh. Vibes hun. Update us as soon as you can x
Re: Vibes for Hermy and Janak - She's gone
I'm so sorry Janak, what a worrying time for you. Spays are such a shock to the system - both my girls reacted badly after theirs and wouldn't eat for a day or two.
Good luck at the specialist clinic, I hope they get somewhere. Are you still syringing her? If she won't eat by herself then force feeding is probably a good idea, just to get something down her.
Come on Hermy, get it together woman!
huge hugs for you J!

Re: Vibes for Hermy and Janak - She's gone
Hi guys...
Hermione has finally done a wee! . Also, when I was massaging her stomach this morning, after she had some infacol, she let out a big pump from behind! I have no idea what this suggests, but I hope it means improvement. She is ever so slightly brighter than yesterday, but is still very reluctant to move. still no poos though....
I'm still continuing with the syringe feed/water every few hours, and making sure she has a pain killer every 12 hours. Still not eating or drinking voluntarily though. I just hope she picks up soon. Hopefully she is off to my normal vets again today, (cat and rabbit clinic are shut ) but my dad has said he is uncomfortable taking her there, becuase he doesn't think they gave her the best care yesterday. He would rather not take her to them today, but wait until tomorrow to take her to the rabbit specialist.
thank you all for being so caring and loving. Spays recoverys are horrible
