Mike was pleased with how much better Benji is, so he's now on Metacam and they are looking into what might be the cause of his pain..... His X-ray is over at Stafford, so he will call Richard later and get him to look, if Richard find nothing, he's going to look tomorrow when he's over there, and if there is still nothing they will get him in for another x-ray (different angle) at the same time after a week or so they are going to see if he's okay off the pain killer, incase it's just muscle... I've actually walked out the vets today for the first time in 2 weeks without booking another appt - however, after adding up the amount of Metacam I've got, come Monday I will need another box Rolling Eyes

He's doing good - and my room is full of poo again woohoo (yea I know I'm excited over poo Rolling Eyes ) He's got quite a bit of bounce back, but he's soooo tiny now, and he doesn't stuff himself like he used too, I just want to get the weight back on him, but I don't know how. I just love him sooooooooo much Love Love

ETA - The metacam stinks!! It's nasty silent

Im so glad that the pain killers are making a difference to the the little monkey.

Just hope the vets can work out whats causing it now. Good news about the poo (im an avid poo watcher myself), as I would def agree that more poos mean he is feeling better.

Sending nose rubs Benji!

Well Benji is on a higher does of meta cam, Richard really went through so much stuff about bones and muscle stuff, and we spent half the time sitting on the floor getting Benji to hop, pushing him over, testing his reflexes, he's convinced there is nothing in the bone to cause pain, he said that muscle injury's can take months to heal, and we need to just trial and error with metacam and rhimodil (sp? not even sure if thats the name lol) He doesn't want to use Rhimodil long term as it has a lot of bad side effects, and its a small strong shot of pain killer that doesn't last where as metacam builds up into the system, so we're going, but it was really sweet of him as he was really listening to me, and seemed to understand my frustration and upset over the fact that Benji isn't acting like my Benji, I think he also gets that I have to have a plan, I have to know what I'm doing to help him.
But saying all that today was a good day I went up to give Benji his metacam, and he had a bit of how dare you force meds down my throat umph - which is amazing really I count it as a good thing, he got down onto the floor, but not for long Hmmm and he wolfed down some biscuits, Just the smallest things, and I think oh it's working he's getting better, but then the next day he's back to sleeping and not budging. I've had to switch to ordinary litter trays which is causing a mess, and havoc, but for Benji it's so worth it Love

As for Izzy, the lump on her neck became a lump of pus, (sorry I feel too ill to be suttle tonight) so he drained it, and he said he would have to do the same on her leg in 1 week, he also said her neck would need doing again, which is true so we're booked in on Wednesday again, but this time with Mike instead of Richard. So we shall see what happens now.

Well I am trying, I have spent most of the weekend on the sofa feeling rubbish (stinking cold Rolling Eyes ) But as I was worried, Benji has been less active again today, but still more then he has been, so we keep ploughing on. I really appreciate all the vibes you guys send - I am coping so much better this week, despite feeling ill. I think because nothing else has gone wrong, and I have 2 seperate things, to help then get through.

Poor Fudge has taken to spending his days playing with the cat as the other 2 are being slightly boring Laughing Poor Cassie is in Limbo It's such a shame I had hoped to sort out my bondings by now, but I daren't risk it just yet. But gosh she has settled in well Love and I love her to bits!!

Izzy's leg is slowly getting better - It's very slowly reducing in size, to me it does look nasty all the time, but I see it working away, and it seems good. She is on Baytril for another week, back in with Richard on Tuesday. He drained her neck again, only time will see if it comes back again!

Mike said I can just phone for more Metacam for Benji when I need it, He said they only have to review repeat prescriptions every 3 months Shocked - I do hope he's better before that though. We didn't really talk about him as my heads just not in the right place to take it in atm

I also got him to check fudges mouth - this stressed him out soooooo much I couldn't believe it Sad - He's being getting all wet round his mouth, and constantly working his jaw all the time Hmmm whcih is concerning me, but I wonder if he is stressing over the other bunnies Sad but then he has never got this worked up at the vets, I could hardly get him into the carrier to go Hmmm Something is up with him Sad Mike couldn't find anything, and he only had a dental a month ago, he said his tounge and mouth seems healthy. He said to keep an eye on him and if they need to they will do another GA check.

I just want happy healthy bunnies back - I'm not so stressed anymore as things seemed to have leveled out, just really sad for all they have to go through, and that this could just go on and on and on Sad

I felt really stressed a year ago, as it was never ending, it only just seems to have levelled a bit ... I hope I don't live to regret saying that! I seem to think when you were here only a month ago you said something like your bunnies weren't sick in the way mine always seemed to be Hmmm Suspect Best not say that in future No

Give Benji a hug for me, I've never met the little guy but feel as if I know him. ... He's like Roo with a mane Laughing Laughing

No, the x-rays were clear for bone things - they are convinced it's in the muscle/soft tissue..... which unfortunately means they have no way of saying exactly whats happened

I wonder what he's been up to the little monkey.

this is going to sound a bit odd but I notice that you said he was on a 4.5Kilo dose.

When I went to see Mr Chitty he put daisy on a 5Kg dose twice a day because he said that bunnies needed five times as much metacam and twice as often. I was dubious at the time because it was such a massive difference to what he was on. He was on 3Kg dose once a day from his ordinary vet.

I dont want you to think im interferring or anything cos I know your vets are very good. But daisy is sooo teeny weighs just over 1kg so therefore a 5kg dose twice daily. I know that you said that benji is sometimes still very quiet and I wondered if his dosage was high enough. Obviously im not a vet and I dont have very much experience but i did notice an immediate change in daisy as soon as his dosage was upped to this new reccomendation.

Jay said to me at the time that this was fairly new guidance - so I guess its possible that not all vets know about this yet?

I really really hope that you dont think im a stick your nose in person - I just wasnt sure how widely this info was spread amongst vets and if this would make a difference to your little man. It may be that he is already on the same sort of dosage.

Sorry if i've overstepped the mark.

No don't worry about it. It's always good to hear other things.... my vet says the normal bunny dose for metacam is 3x his weight - however you can go higher, but then risks do come with it - my vets always start on less meds, and increase as and when - it's their policy to not over dose, and to try and find natural solutions instead of filling them up with meds (one of the reasons I like them so much) We started Benji on 2kg dose, and after a week he gave me free reign to increase anything up to 5 - However Metacam works by building up into the system, and i uped his does to 4.5 a week before I started to see the improvement..... So I will give another week or so, as these last few days really have been better - I will see how this weekend fairs, and may ask to bump it up to see if it makes a difference, it's just a slow process.
